I second Firefly in TC. Also, Red Ginger, if you are in the mood for sushi or asian inspired food and a cool atmosphere, is excellent. Bubba's on Front St is also really good for a more laid back place. I used to live in TC and frequently visit there!
I just have to participate in this party because I'm going to TC on Sunday. One night there with my parents, one night at Little Bear Lake (Johannesburg/Lewiston area) for RUSTIC camping with my friend who now lives in Virginia and her family. I can only do one night of no plumbing and the amount of drinking they do. H and I just got back from New Orleans last night so I am having a coast-to-coast week, lol!
For wineries, I like Good Harbor (the Harbor Red is perfect table wine) and one other, I think it might have been Chateau Fontaine. In Leland, Verterra Winery has a really good hard cider. Skip Ciccone and 2 Lads, both were crappy and 2 Lads is too far to go for lousy wine. (They are still a little newer so it may be better in a few years.) The Grand Traverse Distillery is interesting, too. Have fun!
What!? I love 2 Lads! It is way out there though travel wise. They have my FAVORITE Pinot Noir! And usually I hate Michigan red wines! This just isn't the climate for them!
The GT Distillery is awesome - plus, it's booze and not wine. BONUS!
@juliash My mom used to work at the Blue Bird! Back in the '80s early 90's! And I went to school with the owners son. We were BFFs until he cut up my squishy Earth ball toy. I was really disappointed the last time I was there in 2011. The food was burned and bad and out server was awful. The inside look really dated. :/
I feel like a whole bunch of Michigan posters came out of the cracks of ML for this post! There are waaaay more Northern Michigan and Yooper ladies that I thought!
I call myself a half breed. Half yooper half troll. I live in Lansing now and would do ANYTHING to go back North!

Maybe this calls for a Michigan GTG!
We should! I just don't know when I have time. I think we've tried before but traveling was a bit of an issue for some. I think.
Lol, yoopers. We love the land up there too. TC/charlevoix/etc are just the start of the glory of "up north" when you're traveling from down south (gr and the like haha) it's like the sign you're entering the beautiful country.
I adore the UP as well. We spent much of our honeymoon up there because we love it (and have hiked there tons and Been to some of the far reaches). But there will also always be a special place in my heart for the beautiful sands of Lake Michigan.
Northern LP is more doable for a quick weekend getaway.
