Have we done this before? What are some important life rules that you have learned from ML?
My co-worker called me over on Friday to help her answer a patient's question. The answer depended on if she was pregnant, so I asked if she was. My co-worker scoffed at me for asking and teased that it was pretty obvious since the patient looked around eight months along or so. I turned to her and said, "The women in my life have taught me that you never assume anything. Ever."
That many childless folks think they're experts on raising kids, and that I can fall into this trap myself. I try to nix most of my internal mom judging because of this; I certainly learned not to bitch about it to other moms.
1) Yesterday, DH was talking about this guy he knows who won't eat ANY vegtable and I was all "well, there was this epic post about this and apparently there are lots of people ..."
2) A while ago, I got educated about how it was normal and expected that my SIL drop us when she separated from my BIL. Saved a lot of hurt feelings on that one. Gained a lot of perspective.
3) I think I have a better relationship with my mom because of ML.

Every once in a while something comes up in conversation and I forget that things which are universally held truths here do not necessarily translate to Real Life (or whatever particular group of people I'm talking to at a given moment).
I've learned not to worry about being judged, because I definitely will be, no matter what. It's unavoidable. People will judge me for stuff I never even thought to be self-conscious about.

I had absolutely no idea that there were people that do not believe dinosaurs are real. Seriously. I have gone around IRL asking others if they know that there are people who believe this out there. I shit you not my mind is absolutely and completely blown by this.

I missed this initially and just went back to read the thread. It's mind boggling how people can cling so strongly to beliefs in the face of contradictory evidence. H and I just went to the Field Museum and walked through the evolution exhibit that contains fossils and dinosaurs. I wondered how creationists or even those who believe the earth is 6000 years old feel walking through it. Or maybe they just avoid the Field altogether.

That bleeding during pregnancy =/= miscarriage, necessarily.
This meant a lot last night at a family picnic when my SIL called me from her upstairs bathroom, sobbing. She has suffered numerous miscarriages and nearly died from an ectopic pregnancy. She and my brother have tried for 3+ years to have a second child, and are cautiously, ecstatically, 11 weeks pregnant, when she began bleeding quite heavily during our picnic yesterday.
I hugged her, told her that some of my "friends" had experienced similar bleeding, and had healthy babies. Thanks to ML, I was able to feel assured, confident (kind of) and tough. Then I found my brother and sent them off to the ER.
At 10:30 last night she texted me that the ultrasound showed a healthy heartbeat and all appeared to be okay.

Wait. Who doesn't believe dinosaurs existed?
There are some sort of religious folk out there that believe that dinosaurs never existed and fossils are just put here by the devil to trick our faith or something. They really believe that.
