I've tried petfinder, and can only find doodles 5 hours away in the states. I hope trying to find a doodle isn't flameful. I just loved Benson so much, and saw so many of his great traits in other doodles. I'm still so upset he passed away. He was my doggy soul mate.
Try contacting local shelters and rescues and see if you can put your name in should a doodle become available. At the shelter I volunteer for, we have a list of people looking for certain breeds/sizes of dogs and call them when one comes in.
We "rescued" dogs from people that didn't want, or couldn't take care of them. Both times we didn't even want a dog, but when we were asked, we couldn't refuse.
Mine were both from our local shelter. The second was just supposed to be a weekend foster but our first dog fell in love with him instantly and that was it.
My rescue came from the Humane Society. I randomly went there one day with a friend "just to look" and had to bring him home. He's too cute to be in a cage.
He is a total mutt, no specific mix. I likely will do the same next time I want a dog. If you are having trouble finding a specific mix, I'd suggest just checking out some other dogs and seeing if they fit. If there is no particular reason why you need that specific mix (like an allergy) then you might get lucky if you open up your search and you may find another random breed to fall in love with. There is nothing wrong with wanting a specific breed, just suggesting you may be pleasantly surprised if you don't have any luck with your original search.
How did you find your dog? I'm really wanting to get another goldendoodle, but not wanting to support puppy mills etc. I'm still feeling heart broken since benson passed away, and loved that doodles don't shed. I keep looking up local shelters and haven't had any luck. Any suggestions?
One is from a yorkie rescue, our mutt is from the local shelter, and our Wiem was rehomed to us.
I am just going to put this out there since it is one of my pet peeves. Getting a goldendoodle doesn't necessarily mean it won't shed. You are mixing a poodle with a golden retrievers which sheds so you might end up with a dog that has shedding qualities. There are however a large number of other dogs that don't shed. Why not broaden your search to any dog that doesn't shed instead of having such a narrow scope?
My family has a place in the country and people drop dogs off out there all the time.
Someone dropped this sweet female hound off and she promptly got knocked up. We took in 3 of the puppies.
This is how we ended up with our doxie/yorkie. A family friend lives out in the country, and someone dropped off a pregnant doxie, and we took one of the puppies.
Thank you for the replies! I've emailed local shelters and they will give me a call when a dog I might be interested becomes available. I'll continue on my search @tambcat Bailey is just so damn cute!! I adore him. Your pictures of him always make me smile.
