This happened to friends of mine. They moved into their house and a couple months later there was a bat in their house. They had to wait for the bat maternity thing too.
I think if you haven't seen a bat flying inside the house, then you will probably be fine.
Am I the only one who finds this adorable! BABY BATS!!!! awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww
You can tell N about it, she will be super excited I bet.
I do!! I LOVE bats. They are so freakin cool. My ILs used to have bats under their eaves and I loved going To look at them. There were like 6 or 7 itty bitty bats.
I also dig bats. When I was in the Peace Corps, they lived in the space between the ceiling and the tin roof. They would come down through the hole in the ceiling in the shower stall and fly around until they exhausted themselves. Then they would lie on the floor until someone saw them (i.e. me) and picked them up with a rag and saved them.
But as cute as they were in the Caribbean when I was 24, I'd be less jazzed about them now, in a house with solid walls and insulation, living in the space next to where my kid sleeps.
Eeeeeeek. I would freak the fuck out if I had bats living in my house.
But thanks to the bat lady who visited the library, I learned that they only give birth to one baby every year or so. Diseases are killing them off faster than they can reproduce.
Hopefully your baby bats learn to fly soon and you can bat-proof your house after they leave.

I know nothing about bats, but I think the answer is in your signature I'm sure a cat could drive out a bat right?
Otherwise, burn the house down.
lol, no. That cat is 13, and does the bare minimum. The only reason she bothers to deal with stairs is because I put her food in the basement to make her exercise at least once a day.
I called my dad and he assured me that the bat doesn't want to come in through my light fixtures. Well, DUH dad. No bat WANTS to be inside. But shit happens. H told me there's 2 feet of insulation in the attic, so here's hoping that, coupled with easy access to the outside keeps it out of my sight until BabyBat can fly away.
Be consoled though that like you said, it's probably a 1 off problem since there was no evidence, and your inspection was very thorough.
I wonder if your kind and gentle handy man would double check the insulation for you as he has seemed so animal friendly over the year. Maybe they could put some plastic or something down above the girls rooms.
You might be able to get N to find it cool. There was some kind of nocturnal animal education center in lansing area, but I don't remember what or where. (I just know my friend would bring cool animals over to our dorms for us to play with). Maybe you guys can read up on their development and she could make up stories at night about the baby bats getting up and getting ready for their day (night)? No idea.
Has E noticed? She might not be a fan if she's still not a fan of birds. (peacocks)
Waiting to talk to c about this week btw! It's pouring rain at the moment and he's trying to get some big project done on one house today and kept saying how utterly exhausted he is, so I dont' want to chat about that til after I get back from my meetings tonight.

Ack, I hate bats! We used to get them in our house growing up, so we all slept with tennis racquets under our beds- you could gently tap them to stun them, then scoop and throw outside. I hope she has them babies soon!
Bats are awesome. I'm asking for bat houses and scent for Christmas and my birthday so I can lure some to my backyard. They eat A third of their body weight per night in bugs. That's a fuckload of mosquitoes, y all. And they're adorrrrrable!!

Yes! I want a bat house too.
We had one that took up residence between the screen and the storm window. It was awesome!
I guess they are protected here, and you can't re-locate them during these 8 weeks of the year. Our handy man told us that too about a month ago when we were talking about something else entirely (he took a bat eviction job the day before Maternity season started, so the guy just *barely* made the call in time to have them removed). This particular exterminator is very bat-friendly, and is endorsed by some sort of bat conservation organization. So that's great and all, and bats are great when they're eating bugs OUTSIDE. Not so much in my effing house.
And, I just realized that the attic space is connected in the entire house. So that's great. The woman on the phone was really calming and reassuring, promising me I didn't need to freak out or burn my house down. She was like, as long as they have a way out at night, they won't get desperate. It is when they get desperate to escape that they look for other exits, like, into your house.
ETA: Our inspector said there was no evidence of any bats, ever, in the attic when we did the inspection, so I guess I'm kind of happy that this is not a chronic problem. Silver lining?
This exact thing just happened to a coworker, with the same issue, except they referred to it as mating season. The bat remover guy located the access point the bats were using and put a cover on it so that once the bat flies out, it can't fly back in. After the "season" is over they will come back and remove any bats that didn't leave on their own. This coworker was told she probably had 8 or more bats in her house---ack!
I....wait, what?! Maternity season? Isn't animal control supposed to be able to safely move these types of situations??
I had to get the damn rabies shots b/c I slept in a room w a wild/city bat and apparently you can get bit w/o knowing. This is blowing my mind. I'd be freaking out!!!
I got rabies shots in the same situation! Wtf! I'd call another exterminator or kill that asshole bat with a broom!
