H is OOT, and some jackass lost control of his car this afternoon and hit H's completely brand new Subaru while he was stopped at a light. The good news is that H is okay, the bad news is that the car is likely going to be written off as a total loss. Holy hell, I'm shaking I'm so angry. So now, on top of finishing up his business trip/training, H is going to have to either buy a plane ticket to fly home or buy a new fucking car while he's there.
What kind of insurance does the other driver have? Has your H spoken to them yet? If he does need to fly home, they will likely authorize him buying a plane ticket to fly home.
I would NOT advise him buying a new car while he's there, unless he has written consent from the other company that this is okay, but it can take time to have the car inspected and determined to be a total loss.
Granted, this is all assuming he's not in a no-fault state. Even if he is, he'll need permission from *your* insurance company.
Call your insurance company and see if you have rental insurance. Your husband may be able to rent a car and get reimbursed or they might set something up for him.
ETA: Also what cwmb said about the flight. Call, and you should be able to work something out.
He's on the phone with our insurance right now. They've handled major accidents for us before (both times H was driving, and he's never been at fault. The guy just has awful luck) so I'm confident that they'll give H good advice regarding the logistics of getting him home and in a replacement car. Thanks for the advice about making sure everything is kosher if he does wind up purchasing something while he's still there.
I'm so sorry. I'm glad he's ok. Did he get checked out? It blows my mind that you can be in a totaled car and have no injuries (I tore ligaments in a fender bender).

Apparently not, but the upshot is that he's a physician attending a training with hundreds of other physicians at a massive medical center. He's pretty sure he's fine--at least there are no obvious injuries. If he's not feeling well tomorrow, though, at least he's in the right place with the right people.
Did you get the GAP insurance when you bought the car?
That blows. Car accidents are the suck. Glad your DH is okay though.
We did, thank goodness!
Re: walking away from a bad accident--five years ago we were in a rollover with our oldest son (who was an infant at the time) and nobody had more than a few bruises. It's amazing how cars are really engineered to protect you in most scenarios.
Glad your dh is safe and that you bought gap insurance. I would definitely be checking into getting a rental to srice home or making sure they cover air fare. This is one of my biggest worries when we go out of town and drive instead of fly. God this sucks. I've had 2 people hit me in the past 5 months so I get the bad luck thing. Made me glad I picked a big ass suv because the last one would have totaled my mustang.

Any update? Was he able to arrange travel home through insurance? How's he feeling today?

He's still out of town, and the insurance companies haven't said much about travel arrangements yet. The body shop is also really dragging their feet on digging into the car to see how much damage there really is, which is obnoxious. They've got some time to figure it out, though. H appears to be just fine, thank goodness. He's not even stiff, which is kind of a miracle. Thanks so much for asking!
