I've been doing really well (for me) with running. I'm ready for 5ks this year and working to get under 30 min. Running is new for me in the past 2 years and I like it a lot. I run for weight loss, healthy exercise and because I love being able to reach goals.
I KNOW weight training will help with weight loss (25 lbs down and I'd like to lose just 5-10 more) and it will help with running. Same with doing other exercise - I don't want to overtrain and get injured.
But actually doing other things is another story. Running fits in best with my limited time (3 kids and full time job, DH works crazy hours.)
Yesterday I forced myself to try the elliptical, which I hated, and to do the weight circuit at the gym. I feel like if I'm not running, I'm wasting my time.
Any tips/thoughts for me?
I generally run 3-3.5 miles every other day, unless DH is working over nights and I can't get out even at 5am.

I am the same way - Cardio is easy and it makes me feel most accomplished b/c I can see and feel the calorie burn. It's also my lazy workout since it doesn't require much thought or planning. Mentally, though, I know that strength training helps me be a better runner and building muscle burns more calories too. I have worked with the trainer at my gym to get a plan of which strength exercises to do to really push myself and feel the burn. My trainer told me yesterday that you should really want to give up at like 17 reps (out of 20 - which is my current plan) or else it's too easy. Being sore the next day definitely makes me feel like it's worthwhile to strength train.

Well if you know all the benifits already, sounds like you need a plan. I like to write it down on my calender exactly what my workouts will be for the week. Just seeing it written it down makes it something I have to do.
