Ha, yeah I guess it was sneaky! We had a couple of early losses before this one so I have been pretty nervous (still am, actually, even though we heard the HB this week). It seemed like making some big announcement would be bad karma.
Last summer/fall, I played around with eating "low carb" (or I guess you might say paleo-style, but I was not strict with it and still ate cheese/milk/dairy) for a few months. I don't even think low carb is an appropriate descriptor, I ate tons of fresh fruit and starchy veggies like potatoes, squash, etc. Mostly I just cut down on bread, pasta, and sugar. I felt awesome, looked great, and was the leanest I've been since college. And although I cut back on booze and junk, I still drank plenty of beer on the weekends and had a glass of wine most nights and it was still quite effective. So for me, when I picture super healthy eating, that's what I picture.
But now I am 8 weeks PG and am eating practically the opposite, LOL. Dinner last night was mac and cheese and a popsicle. That's about as healthy as it's gonna get right now.

Whoa!!! Did I miss something, or did you really just try & slip that in?! Congratulations!!!!
I was thinking the exact same thing!!! Congrats shelbyann!!!!!
Healthy eating for me is eating lots of fruits and vegetables and lean protein. I'm not the best when it comes to sugar but I try to do the 80-20 thing. I haven't had any sweets since last Thursday (I'm cutting sweets until my bday on the 23rd) and I'm feeling pretty good. I try to eat whole grains but also could be better about processed foods.
but one thing humanity has in common is that we all figured out how to make booze. vodka, sake, wine, whiskey, rye, tequila, meade, beer, etc. ALL of our ancestors were able to buckle down, pull themselves up by their bootstraps, and fashion some booze using the materials available. ergo, alcohol is paleo. ywia.
Unless you are literally ripping flesh from an animal or drinking milk straight from its udder, chances are your food is "processed" in some way.
I get that people mean overly processed, but that is, of course, vague and (IMHO) a term of little value.
Yeah, for real. I definitely use the term "processed" because it is meaningful to people in certain circles (like this one) but, to me, it sounds as silly as "toxins". While I'm on my soapbox, can I also mention that it drives me bonkers when people equate natural to "safe, healthy, good".

Also, I think this has been discussed here in the past, but when people say "full of chemicals!" Because everything is chemicals. Water is chemicals. Veggies picked straight from your garden are chemicals. I get the intention (man-made chemicals rather than naturally occurring ones) but it still strikes me as kind of funny. OMG CHEMICALS!
Pretty much the same opinion here...I'm trying to cut down on overly processed foods and microwave meals. We're switching to organic wherever possible, trying to buy our meat (especially red meat) at farmer's markets.
I def. do the 80/20. I love to cook, but when I go out I want it to be worth it. I detest chain restaurants such as Applebees or Olive Garden. I'd rather save those calories (and $$) for a great local place. This is problematic because we eat with my ILs every Sunday and they adore Olive Garden. I also decide if treats are worth it. For example, over the holiday weekend my mom cooked my very favorite chocolate pound cake for my birthday. I had a piece everyday through Sunday. that cake is worth it. Brownies from a box/cookies from the grocery store? not worth it.
I would say I follow the 90/10 rule and I don't really purchase anything "processed" either. I make sure I eat fruit and veggies every day and my protein comes from eggs, ground turkey and chicken (mostly because that's what fits our budget at the moment).

Yes-- I think "chemical" is a very misunderstood word. Chemicals are not necessarily scary.
I say I try to eat "less processed" food, and mainly I mean things like pre-packaged meals, Doritos, etc. Though I am still super guilty of stuff like frozen pizza. I don't stress about things like PB, granola bars, decent deli meat, etc.

This is my biggest pet peeve EVER. If something doesnt have any chemicals, then its a vacuum! Water = chemicals. Puppies = chemicals. Organic vegetables = chemicals. Evrything is literally made of chemicals!!
To me, healthy eating is about consuming fuel, rather than just "food." There is a difference. I think I may have read about this in clean eating magazine or something like that but it really resonates with me.
I also follow the 80/20 plan... Or the 85.7/ 14.3 plan if you wanna get technical. In other words, I have one free day where I try to keep to the basic principals of a healthy lifestyle but embrace treats in moderation.
