Napolitano emphasized the move does not provide a pathway to citizenship or permanent residency, and she called for Congress to pass the DREAM Act, which would put into law similar steps for children of illegal immigrants to continue living and working in the country.
This is my favourite quote: "Put yourself in their shoes, imagine you have done everything right your entire life... only to suddenly face the threat of deportation to a country you know nothing about," Obama said.
I would think there would be even more ease with granting citizenship to a 32 year old who came here with his parents at the age of 6, than a 20 year old who came with his parents at the age of 16. You'd have more evidence that the person was gainfully employed, not a criminal, was assimilated etc.
Although I'm not sure why either should get this preference over those who followed the rules in their attempts to get citizenship.
Edited: My bad, I see now there is no path to citizenship. So it's just....limbo until you're 30 and then possibly deportation to a country you don't remember? I'm not sure this is much better than what we have now.
