Thanks for all your kind words about my sweet puppysister. She would have been 15 in September, so this past year was a "bonus year," given the life expectancy of the typical golden.
We, all four of us, got to say goodbye to her this morning. It was peaceful; she just drifted off to sleep.
What a blessing she was, having her for so long. My entire childhood - and the early years of my adulthood - were spent alongside the best dog I'll ever know, and that in itself is some solace.

I'm so sorry. I feel your loss-my cat passed 2 months ago and I was just glad I was able to be there with him when he was put to sleep. It was very peaceful.
I know you're heartbroken. Take comfort in the good memories. Also expect to "forget" she's not there anymore-I still hear little things, think it's the cat and then realize-oh wait, he's not here anymore. Or I'll open the door when I come home expecting him to be sitting in the kitchen, or on my bed when I open the bedroom door.

I can't thank you guys enough. I'm trying to be strong for my younger sister, my mom and my dad, so I don't want to talk too much about it with them (they're all very private), so it's so nice to be able to come here and share.
