ugh! I knew the shots were coming but do the doctors start talking about development yet (verbal, physical skills etc)?
I am not worried about W but she is bigger for her age and I'm always getting, "Don't worry, she'll catch up!" about her vocabulary. I have to remind people she is only 15 months and she says about 10 words, when she feels like it of course. I am noticing that she has a little speech issue though, she says sit and it comes out "shit". We would think we have to start watching our mouths but it would more likely be the F word if she had picked a swear up.
At our 15 month appointment, he got just one shot, the Dtap. They asked about STTN and feeding, pushing me to get him off formula and the bottle.
Apparently, 18 months is where they do lots of developmental questions. At least for us, they'll give me a several page questionnaire on his development, just like they did at the 9 month.
At our 15 month she got DTap and MMR shots. The MMR sucked a week later, but she was rpetty good with them. Our pedi looks for around 10 "words at 15 months. But she considers all communication that they have to process first "words" SO animal sounds, signs, and things that are purposeful. So, she says bububu for blueberry, but we totally know what she means, because that's how she says blueberry, so that counts. It's all pretty subjective. The pedi said that 10 words is just what they look for, but it's not a worry if they don't have them. No stress
Huh? 10 words is like crazy good. I'm not sure if I should be insulted right now or start panicking that my kid has MAYBE 3 words. Ah, you people....
Please, no panicking. 3 words is GREAT! Seriously.
I know. It's not till 18 months or so that word acquisition increases but I seriously cannot STAND threads like this. They are so passive aggressive AWish that it makes my eyes practically roll out of my head.

Threads like this make me anxious too. Like really anxious. I just push it out of my head. Being on this board is great because you get so much information, but it also rides me with anxiety too.

blondiesbored my baby doesn't even really babble with consonant sounds which is a 6m skill. She used to but now has stopped. At this age having zero words isn't even a problem. Please stop freaking out over your advanced child bc it sounds like she's doing just great.

Red flags
Each child develops at his own pace, but talk to your child's doctor if your toddler:
Can't walk by 18 months Doesn't understand the use of everyday objects Doesn't speak at least six words by 18 months or two-word sentences by 24 months Doesn't imitate words and actions Doesn't follow simple instructions Loses skills he previously had
We don't even have a 15 month appt. We have shots at 12m and 4 years. We only get an appt if you want to make one. So all this stressing is annoying me as well.

I know these kinds of posts get to you, but I don't think the vast majority of them, or any of them for that matter, are started to upset you or trudy Campbell.
We have toddlers on this board who have a wide array of verbal, cognitive, social, and motor development skills, and a few of the toddlers seem to be very advanced with their verbal skills. Even though we are not supposed to compare, it is hard not to.

I don't think threads like this are started to upset me. I just think that a quick google search could tell you that 10 words at 15m is absolutely nothing to worry about.

I totally agree with your second sentence. There are tons of websites with developmental milestones. Also, I didn't mean to imply that posts like these upset you.

Thank you. Google is your friend. This reminds me of that skinny friend who is all "I'm so fat!" You all know that friend......

Sounds like she is doing excellent with her vocabulary. Articulation should not be a concern @ 15 months and the S sound is later developing. Like way later. No need to worry until she is 4 or 5+.
In addition to shots, our pedi asked about talking (he was looking for a few simple words), pincer grasp, walking/taking steps, how she was eating and sleeping.
We just got back from the pedi. The exact question asked regarding language was "does he have TWO to THREE words yet?" So you can tell whomever says W is behind language wise to fuck off, blondiesbored.

At the 12 month visit, my pedi said that he would be looking for 2-3 words by 15 months also.

My mom took Henry to his 15 month appt, and she told the pedi he has 6 words. But I think she was exaggerating. I mean he may have said a sound at a time that may have been a word that sounds like dog or bubble a couple of times, but never consistantly.
Our pedi said they "like to see 2-3 words" at 15 months, but in general she is looking more for signs that they understand that words are used for communication, even if they aren't saying them.
E has a few words, but it's like pulling teeth to get him to say them. He just doesn't seem to care very much.
So random strangers think she is behind vocab wise because she is big for her age... But your pedi knows how old she is presumably so I don't see why you'd be concerned based on what people who don't know her age think of her vocabulary. I'm confused.

I guess I don't really understand the point of posts like this, especially if you already know about the shots. My pedi said about 3 words at 15 months. Since we were behind on language, she said she would like to see 10 words by 18 months.
