We had to clear out what was the office and consolidate it with the guest room first. That part took place maybe at 22-ish weeks. I'm really glad that we did it then because I was definitely able to move more stuff/contribute more. The painting and furniture buying/assembly happened about 3 or 4 weeks ago. Since then, I've been working on little projects (painting/fixing up furniture for it, crafting, etc.) and putting the finishing touches. It's almost done and I'm glad for it because I feel like my energy level is dropping a little. Plus, I'm back at work now for the school year (I had the summer off, which was great for this project!).
I haven't started. I looked for ideas on pinterest, but everything is the same! Everyone has either a white crib or a dark cherry/black. I'm reusing Ben's crib; apparently reddish-blonde wood is out of style. We're also buying Ben a new dresser and using his for the baby, since it's the perfect height for diaper changes and matches the crib. Any ideas on what works with that color for a girl? I can't find one pic!

So far, we've picked out a paint color, have a changing table and pack n play (Craigslist finds), have loosely decided on a Winnie the Pooh theme, and have started to move non-nursery stuff out of the room. We're still working on deciding what stuff is going where, so that's the hold-up now. We're also trying to figure out what look we want for the nursery, furniture-wise. I'm lobbying to paint the changing table, but DH isn't quite sure about that yet.

I suggest starting a separate thread on here with pix of the furniture. And describe your style: traditional, modern, vintage, etc, and I'm sure people will chime in. I will

I plan to! But first, we have to dig the crib out of the garage, clean it off, put it together, take photos, etc etc. Hopefully we'll get that done this weekend.....if DH ever wakes up!
Let's just say it's a good thing that the nursery is already set up because otherwise it'd never get done in time. As it is, we have two, maybe three weeks to go, and DD2 and all her clothes are still in there...although now that we've finished painting the girls' furniture we should be able to move her tonight or tomorrow. Right now I'm supposed to be sorting through the six bins of baby clothes we have (both ours and my nieces) to see what will work if we end up having a boy, and instead I'm procrastinating here.
Anyway, I think with DD1 we didn't paint the nursery until 35 or 36 weeks. I also recovered a hand-me-down glider in the last month, and I'm pretty sure the dresser didn't arrive until close to that time as well.
We moved while I was pregnant with DD2, and originally had DD1 in the nursery and never got a chance to repaint it because we had already set up the crib and figured we'd take care of it once we moved her into her big girl room. Well, we didn't get the big girl room painted until I was probably 34 weeks or so, and then we had to transition DD1 into her big girl bed, and so again we didn't get to paint the nursery until I was around 36 weeks.
So, yeah, I think with all three of our babies we really cut it down to the last few weeks. I think it's about 80% procrastination and 20% denial. lol.
Outside of collecting ideas on Pinterest, we started around 19 weeks with looking at paint colors. Since we're Team Green, we weren't concerned with waiting for our anatomy scan at 22 weeks. We narrowed down to 5 colors, which on the wall became 3 colors since there were two sets of almost identical colors, and then I picked one from there. I wanted to live with it on the walls for a while because I'm horribly indecisive when it comes to paint colors, which was good because I ended up going with a different one of the three when S actually painted.
I'm 26w5d and we have the room painted, some artwork purchased, a plan for the layout, the crib here (disassembled because the trim has to be painted still), and the finishing touches picked out.
Still to do are: paint the trim, replace the bedroom door (we just want a different one than what we have now), shampoo the carpets, assemble the crib, paint the dresser we're using in the nursery, install the changing pad on the dresser, hang up artwork, hang a shelf, build the wall-mounted bookshelves, and put all of the touches in there. It seems like a long list sometimes, but really once we have the trim finished and the dresser done (both of which will take a weekend to complete), the whole process should be fairly quick. I have a self-imposed deadline of 30 weeks to complete the nursery, just because then if it isn't done I still have time but I also feel a deadline type of crunch to not put it off, and also so I can take pictures of the room down to my shower to show family and friends who don't live near us and won't see the room otherwise (most of the family doesn't have FB).
Last time we moved in at 35 weeks. We started after that.
This time, We are waiting until we tell my two year old about the baby since the new nursery is currently her playroom. We will tell her after the fetus reaches viability (28 weeks or so). By then she'll be able to feel kicking from the outside so that will make it more real.
Honestly, you don't need most of the nursery stuff when the baby first arrives - just a crib or moses basket or cosleeper and a rocking chair. Get it done when it suits you.
