I can sorta understand what she means about the diapers (though I don't agree), but the used clothes thing is especially dumb, especially considering young kids who are gonna roll around in who knows what. I'd very much rather not pay full price or buy new for something that's gonna look like crap and then not fit in like a month. This is similar to my reasoning to not buy fancy work out clothes (looking at you, Lululemon), because why would I pay an arm and a leg for stuff I'm gonna sweat buckets in and get all smelly after one or two wearings?
I also think she may have a limited idea of what cloth diapers are, cuz I doubt the cute ones in her post are the only possibly option out there.
I just bought an entire wardrobe for the baby from a consignment store. Apparently there is such a thing as antibacterial laundry soap. DH wants me to order some and run everything through once. I'm pretty sure that those will be cleaner than they were brand new after that.
Actually, yes, I would rewear clothes that had been soaked in urine. And I'm not even a parent, yet, so the chances of that happening are slimmer than they otherwise would be.
Also, I told my husband the other day that the most exciting thing about having out own washer and dryer is that I want to cloth diaper when we have kids, and he gave me one of those, "sure, anything you say, crazy lady," looked. Like somehow he hadn't yet realized his wife was insane? I mean, he's been married to me for almost 3 years...
Yeah, she and her mother are ridiculous and there are going to be a lot of baby/toddler clothes, sheets, blankets, car seats, etc in the trash around her house.

I think every article of my clothing has had some baby body fluid spewed on it. Pee, poop, spit up, puke. Good times! Also, breast milk. Breast milk every where. I guess I should just toss it all out and buy a new outfit every couple of hours. That's sensible, right?
I know what you must be thinking: they are my children, and I have the right to raise them how I see fit.
Why is cloth diapering a parenting decision? I mean, yes, it is a decision that parents make, but how is it tied to how you "raise them?" An environmental decision, yes. But I reject the notion that parenting is now down to what we put on our kids' bottoms.
Eh, if my mom had that kind of experience and held that as fact, I might decide against cloth, too. I can't say I believe that rationale myself, but I can't fault her too much since many people don't even consider cloth at all. Not sure why she felt she had to blog about her decision, though. Maybe people expected her to?
There's a difference between taking what your parents say as gospel truth, and digging around and finding out the facts. Her mom, who I'm sure is a lovely lady, is full of shit.

Better to sit around naked, I guess. But then you'd have to get a new sofa because butts.
The clothes I buy for my kids are almost all used. The rest is pretty much hand me downs. I don't understand people who are anti-used clothes for kids.
Does she truly not realize her underwear have pee/poop germs on them, even if she doesn't wet her drawers?
I can sort of see not buying used kids clothes, if you're that paranoid about poop germs. And definitely no used CDs, like some people buy.
But yea, she's an idiot. And going to be throwing away a LOT of kids clothes when her little precious has inevitable blowout in the disposable (which btw have never happened w/ my CDs).
I would not have a single linen in my closet anymore if I threw it out every time I got a bodily substance on it.
Is she not a parent yet? If she is, is her child the only one in the universe who never blew out a diaper?
I wonder if her mom told her to not cloth diaper because her mom knows she has issues and doesn't want to deal with her through that whole mess. (pun!)

ITA. If anything her mom's statements are an argument for why drycleaning is gross and you should actually wash your clothes.

Wow, what a strange viewpoint. Nothing is clean and yet somehow we manage. CDing is a personal choice and she should just say it is not for her without the lame reasoning.

I think she sorta alluded in the comments that she can re-wear her own clothes and undies because its her germs and she knows from where those germs are coming...or something like that.
She also said something about her kids NEVER having blowouts. I can't imagine that to be true. I worked with infants in a daycare for several years. Pretty sure each and every one of those precious angels shit themselves silly at least once while under our care. Anecdotal, yes...but still!

Oh my. She would not like me then, lol. I think CDing is fun. Okay, I take that back as weeks 6-10 of my second pregnancy I thought I would die if I was subjected to my sons dirty CD's but otherwise I love CD's and perhaps I'm in denial about their cleanliness. I also love a good consignment sale. I guess she would have a whopper freakout to know people resell CD's.

yeah, I'm really going to need a ticker from you
Ha! I don't really do tickers. Just think - one day (in about 9 weeks!) I'll surprise everyone with fresh baby pics!
