Caden - if we had an attached garage, I would definitely grab one, run them inside and them grab the other. With the detached garage I just don't feel comfortable leaving one in the car while I run inside with the other one.
It is definitely a work in progress, and with the weather being nice, it is easier - I take M out first because she sits behind me, and she runs to the door to our back yard and opens it and goes into the yard to play, so then I can grab E and let him go play. The garage door is shut so there is no risk of them running out to the alley.
Picking them up and dropping them off at daycare is a challenge because I kind of have to box one kid in between the door/car while I get the other one out, but it is getting easier.
It was so much easier when they were in infant seats.

That's for sure. I'm counting down til my boys are of the age where they will actually listen to me when I tell them to stay put. I don't know when that is, but surely it has to get better. (I tell myself all the time...)
I'm just confused about how you get a kid out of a car with only one hand. Add that to the list of things that terrify me about twins. Or two kids even.

I couldn't do it until my kids were old enough to lean forward and reach out to me from the car seat. I tried to do it earlier and it was a massive fail of arms and legs flying everywhere.
Forgetting my baby in the backseat was one of my biggest fears last summer. I was so incredibly paranoid after that WaPo article. I insisted on my H and I texting/calling each other on drop-off days and I would always put my bag in the back with the baby.
You'd think it would almost be a non-issue here in South Florida because it's so hot all year round that it's drilled into our heads not to leave pets or kids in cars, but every summer, there's at least one heartbreaking story. I think the one that hurt most last year (or the year before) was when it happened to a little girl forgotten in her daycare's van after a camp outing. I can't remember exactly when it happened, but all I could think was "That poor girl...and that poor family."
I can't tell you how thankful I am that this summer, Kiddo is bigger and noisier in the back. That occasional screeching is another safety measure. I'll take it every day of the week.

This. Our twins were in their infant seats till almost a year-ish old because they were small, so I didn't have to worry about it when they were just "sitting there". Now they can squirm out of the seats themselves, scoot onto the floor of the car, and then I can grab them. Or grab their hand and they scoot out of the car.
It's a process and not very graceful, but whatever.

Aurora, I had those same thoughts
I live in hawaii. It's never cool enough. I still have seen dogs in cars. Thankfully only at walmart which has a covered garage, but I imagine they go other places, too.
