yeah, i've been look at them online. here's the thing. my sister had anoles and they were small and fast and wound up all over the house. we were constantly finding them turning all dry and grey and hanging from the curtains and stuff. if we were going to get anything, i would want it to be something slow and a little bigger. something that can't hid under the fridge or in the toes of my shoes. lizards like that look like they require enormous habitats and a fucking shitton of attention. it's just not going to work for us right now.
There are lizards alllllllll over the outside of our house...and sometimes get inside the house or car.
I WILL SEND THEM TO YOU!!! You can thank me later.
She's just waiting to lick your nose. She loves giving your nose a little lick.
so, i see you have the reptile carpet stuff in there instead of the sand. is that because yours is young or because it's easier to maintain or because sand sucks? shit. ryan and i are going to petsmart tomorrow to scope this guy out and talk to somebody who knows what's up. jonah's birthday is in a couple weeks so i brought it up to h and he thinks it's an awesome idea (i'm still not completely sold). he's so frustrated at the thought of buying another toy that jonah will forget about in a couple days. he also played the "teaching him responsibility" card and assures me that he will back me up in making jonah responsible for feeding, cleaning, etc. (uummmm....like the dog? right.)
I use pet carpeting specifically for lizards. I have two. They come pre cut to the size of the tank. I rinse it off once a week and put in the other so the one I rinsed can dry. Simple! They will usually poop in one specific spot in their tank. No smell, no mess!
ETA: The feeding/cleaning part is GREAT for a young kid, because it's not a daily thing. A daily thing gets boring for them. Plus, he will probably enjoy shaking a couple crickets in every few days...it's fun to watch them quickly snap them up in their mouth!

Leopard geckos are super easy and super calm. Sand is not necessary at all. I agree with the others who think they make a great starter reptile. Chameleons are really awesome but they can be quite delicate and are much pickier in terms of heat, humidity, cage type, ect then the leopard geckos.

i'm mad at you, too!!!!Â
You won't be when you own a pet that's so easy to care for you barely even have to think about it. Seriously. They require even less attention than fish. At least he didn't ask for a snake. Lol.
My dd has a bearded dragon and a gecko. I love them both but I really love the gecko best. So very easy and sweet and cool. I use the carpet to because it is super easy to clean and doesn't hurt them when they eat the crickets. (Sometimes they can eat too much sand while going for the crickets)

"I was thinking about getting off on demand, but it sounds like I should be glad that I didn't"
if you assholes talk me into a lizard, i'll never forgive you. i don't WANT to have mealworms in the house!!
My leopard gecko, Queen Elizabeth, eats tiny live crickets. And only a few every couple of days. You just shake a couple in.
Where do you keep the crickets? Don't they drive you insane? I once gave H a white's tree frog for Christmas, and it ate crickets. They were noisy, smelly, and so gross to me lol

I keep them in a tall glass vase. Since I use the tiny ones, they can't hop that far. The vase stays on a shelf. I've never heard them make noises. I think the tiny ones are different. They're the size of a fingernail.
