Are your local towns hosting these type of parades all of the sudden?
We've had two towns in the area host these types of parades. Am I the only one who thinks it's a little premature? Last I checked we still had close to 100K service members over in and around a country called Afghanistan.

It's been a fairly big debate with a few large cities (I think St Louis was first) throwing them and NYC not throwing one.
Rachel Maddow spent a lot of time on her show pushing them. I see her point, that you celebrate the end of one war, acknowledge and thank those who served in it, even if they have to redploy to a different war afterward. They still did a job, did it well, and deserve recognition. Like honoring both VE and VJ day with parades.
But I'm also somewhat of the mindset that it's the same war, and we're not done. Basically, I can't get myself worked up for either side of the debate.
I do question, though, how is it a slap in the face to honor returning veterans? Here's a parade, in your honor, thanking you,, and you're insulted?

I kind of saw it as a slap in the face to the guys who won't be coming home for a while. Why not wait until the last man is home to celebrate? I just feel like those people are being overlooked.
Because there are 2 wars, and both should be celebrated. Why should the people coming home from Iraq have to wait for their recognition?
I see where you're coming from. I guess I'm just assuming that after the parades are over the veterans that are still returning won't get the same level of recognition.
