Now here's a question I never thought I would have to ask. After a year long flare and going 6-10 times a day, I'm happily on Imuran and feeling normal. BUT, I haven't gone since Sunday. Is that a problem? I have no pain or anything like that. I'm eating lots of fruits and veggies and drinking coffee.
If I remember correctly, some doctors consider three days to be constipation and a week to be concerning. I routinely go a week or more with nothing in between my flair ups, though, and they don't follow through much with being concerned so I've never been quite sure.
I normally assume that if I'm not having pain, my body is handling things.
I can't believe I am about to say this on a public message board, but I try not to let myself go that long. I just know from experience that after a few days, I feel kind of off. So, I try to just sit down with lots of quiet at a no-stress time of day (ie, when I am not at work or self-conscious about anyone else being around or needing the bathroom or wondering where I have run off to) and just relax until I go.
I tend to get especially constipated when I'm traveling, due to time changes, long flights, staying in a cramped hotel room or with relatives, or just being on the go all day, and even then, I try my best to find some quiet, relax time to do my business or else I will feel awful after a couple of days.
I'm not sure what the right answer is. But I go back and forth between constipation (not going for 3+ days) and having water faucet ass. It's so weird
This is where I am. I'm on Cimzia for my Crohn's but I've been having IBS-like symptoms, especially constipation. My GI told me to take a serving of fiber (Benefiber) & laxative (Miralax) each night before bed. I'm still working on finding the right frequency though - 5 nights in a row = diarrhea. Skipping 2 nights = constipation. So...? I do know that I feel terrible after about 2 1/2 days of not pooping, so if you get to the "feeling bad" point, I would mix up some benefiber + miralax (I can't even taste it in apple juice). Good luck!
