It wasn't that it was poorly written, but The Dive From Claussen's Pier is definitely my most hated book. THe end sucked and I was totally pissed that I invested my time in reading it, only to have a weak ass, limp ending. Annoying!
Before 50 Shades of Grey, I would've said Twilight--specifically, the last book. But 50 Shades of Grey is so Godawful. I cannot believe I spent 9.99 on that piece of shit. It's like an 8th grader wrote it (if I'm being kind).
If we're talking about real books, I'd say "Catch 22." I tried so hard to finish it, but I just couldn't do it.

Minion by LA Banks. A book about a black vampire hunter. That should have been right up my alley, but nope. It's one of the few books I couldn't bring myself to finish.
ETA: If we're talking actual literature, I'd say Ethan Frome or a Separate Piece. And Lisa Simpson agrees with me.

I actually thought as I was reading those 3 pages... the writing is that of a 8th grade "C" student.
crap books - It's too hard to narrow it down to one. MIL is a whore for bodice rippers - she picks them up at goodwill and library sales, reads them and then gives them to me by the grocery bagful. I don't even remember the titles, but most of them are so bad that I actually crack up laughing in the midst of the heavy scenes.
Oh, real books - A Brave New World made me irrationally angry. I read it in 9th grade and thought the writing was pure crap.
I've been reading it for six months and can't seem to finish. So I finally bought a new book - Little Children by Tom Perotta - to try to jumpstart me back into reading.
Of books assigned in school, hands down it was Moby Dick.
Of books I read of my own volition, The House of Mirth by Edith Wharton. I wanted to stab myself in the eye the whole time, but I felt compelled to finish it for some stupid reason.
I read 40 pages of the first Twilight book. The writing was so atrocious that I couldn't finish.
The Memory Keeper's Daughter by Kim Edwards or Bel Canto by Ann Patchett.
I read LOTS of just shit chick lit four or five years ago too. Jennifer Weiner, Jennifer Cruise, Plum Sykes, Emily Giffin, Sophie Kinsella, etc., but this book Maneater (I know...) by Gigi Levangie Grazer was the absolute WORST.
Oh my GOD, I completely forgot about this book. It was like two separate books. I liked the first half and then when the girls became adults, they were just completely not sympathetic. And the dialogue was terrible.
Worse than reading it where you could skim if you wanted to, I'm listening to it on audio. I got it because I knew I was going to be driving a lot and everyone was talking about it years ago.
My god. It's just awful. But I'm too invested now! I've put HOURS into listening to it. FML.

I swear to you all that eventually I lost such interest I didn't even understand nor care to understand the story. I read the last few pages I tried like Charlie Brown's teacher.
PLEASE DON'T TAKE AWAY MY P&CE CARD!!!! I really loathed that book though.
For trashy, stupid books that aren't really supposed to be good lit... hmm. I read 50 Shades when it was Twi FF. It was probably one of the worst FF I read. I didn't even read it all, but what I read sucked. All of it. HATE.
I didn't think anything could be worse than Twilight, but I just finished Insurgent and I think it was worse...
Real books - I never made it through Anna Karenina or Out of Africa. I'll have to give this more thought though...
ETA: How could I forget Eat, Pray, Love? Also - the follow-up to Julie/Julia - Cleaving - was horrible. I also couldn't get through Reading Lolita in Tehran and Bel Canto.
My mother loved this book and recommended it but I just finished another Ann Patchett book that received all sorts of rave reviews and I was thoroughly unimpressed. I can't even think of the name and I just finished it about five days ago.
