For those who have taken the test: What dietary steps did you take in the days before to prepare? I can take it Tuesday or Thursday of this week but Tuesday would be best. I already ate some bread today and had about a 1/3 a cup of jello (we were visiting my mom in surgery recovery, they gave it to DD and she fed it to me instead. But it kept her calm and happy.)
For those who know diabetes, have I screwed myself with what I ate today and should wait until Thursday?
I obviously want an accurate reading and to manage gestational diabetes if I have it, but a false positive would *suck*
Check with your OB because it seems like every doctor has a different approach to this. Some want you to eat low carb 2-3 days beforehand, some want you to eat as you normally would, some want you to fast the morning of, etc.

What you eat today shouldn't affect the test tomorrow. You're supposed to fast for 12 hours before the test; that will 'reset' your blood sugar baseline.

I didn't do anything different and failed it by 1 point. Literally 1 freaking point. I did the GD diet and checked my blood 4 times per day. The Doctor said it was up to me if I wanted to do it so I decided not to take any chances. I was very overweight though so it was probably good for me to do. I actually lost weight when I was pg.

I think I might try to follow some GD guidelines even if I pass. But a good test result would let me cheat every now and then (4 family birthdays and Thanksgiving are all coming up :-)

Oh that's right. I was given a crazy 3 day eating plan that was full of carbs. I didn't follow that and decided to eat like I normally did. That plan wanted me to eat half of a baked potato, 2 slices of bread, and 1 cup of pasta at the same meal along with protein and fruit/veggies. Even I didn't eat like that.

Wise choice. All those things sound great, individually. But at one meal? I think I'd go insane.
they told me to eat like usual before my initial test. I think I had an english muffin hours before hand. Anyway, i failed but did NOT want to attempt the three hour. So, they let me eat as usual and test my sugars four times a day for a week. Between those results and how K was measuring (she was in the 95th percentile for tummy size), they were able to tell I had GD.
Oh and I had a feeling I was going to have it. I would just feel sickly after eating anything remotely sugary or carb heavy. Feeling like I had eaten 15 candy bars when I just had an english muffin with PB and a dab of jam.
I was supposed to carb load for 3 full days before fasting for 12 hours then testing. I failed the 1 hour by quite a bit (maybe 10 points?) but passed the 3 hour with flying colors. I think the reason for the carb load was more to get me through the fast?
I had to do the 3-hour for both pregnancies. I didn't change my diet for it either time. I just fasted for as long as they told me to prior to the test.
