pagas, I've always been curious. How old are you guys? What industry are you or your h in that allow for this type of extravagant lifestyle? I think you're younger than me and I just need to feel even shittier about our financial situation, apparently. lol.
With your "my choice of vacation" price lists, and $600 boot recs, and PIPs of your drawer o' Tiffany bags.
We get it man. Lol.
This was always pagas. Financially comfortable. Her other main characteristic in my mind these days is "SAH mama" which is pretty distinct from elle.
But is elle defined here merely by her wealth? I always think of her as an attorney, first and foremost. (Perhaps because her spending habits don't seem that strange for a partner at a decent firm. Her husband's money is the icing that allows for multiple houses, but the spa/purse stuff doesn't seem out of line with her career.)
Pagas has always enjoyed the "finer things": clothes, food, travel. She has great taste, yet she strikes me as being pretty practical. I especially love her wanderlust and that she is passing it on to her dd. I'm way too lazy to schlep my kid to Tokyo (shame on me).
I have a friend whose mom saved all of the nice shopping bags to put the trash out in so the neighbors would see. Her kids make so much fun of her for it.
I don't know the old PAGAS, but I find myself envying her sometimes-minus the stay at home part. One kid, 2 homes, travel. That was supposed to be H and I. The twins have thrown us for a loop but we are still hoping and planning for that kind of life, just a bit more slowly
ETA- and I don't care about jewelry or Tiffany at all, so I definitely don't have a drawer of Tiffany bags
i was really confused because i didn't see the tiffany bag post and i was thinking, tiffany sells handbags now? but i get it, i get it. anyway, i love rich people and i love to see what they buy/have, so post and aw all you want!
Tiffany does sell handbags now. They are lovely and $$$. I thought she had a drawer of those for a minute and my mind was blown.
I save my bags. Not fancy in a bag, because I shove them on top ofmy closet. Not all of them, just heavy bags from places like Tiffany, and the LLL bags, because I can reuse them. That's all.
The only rich person shopping bag story I have goes in the opposite direction. In college, I worked as a bank teller. We had one customer who was quite rich so we would actually drive to her house to pick up her deposits. She was in her 70s or so and was the heiress to the Carhartt fortune. If you don't know Carhartt, they make very warm outdoor wear, boots, etc.
Anyway, this woman kept $7million at our bank and yet she always had holes in her boots. Is that real irony or just Alanis Morrisett irony? She used to put plastic bags over her feet before putting her boots on to keep the water out. In case you were wondering, the bags I saw peeking out of her boots were from...TARGET. What a waste of being rich.

I agree.
elle is clever, witty, ambitious, and interesting.
My only rich girl story is I had a sublet roommate one year who was from France. Her father owned a shipping yard company or something.
One time my friend, the roommate and I went to the mall and we visited Ann Taylor. Fresh out of college. poor friend and I just sort of stood around the store and didn't try anything on.
Roommate asked why we weren't shopping and I responded with something like. "Well, it's a bit too expensive for our budget."
Her response..."Well, it's Ann Taylor, what did you expect?"

I don't understand shopping at Ann Taylor fresh out of college.

YOU ARE YOUNG! LOL.
Right? I don't think I bought anything until years later and it was a freaking tank top!
Meh. As long as you have been here, I would think you'd have a thicker skin, and this is not insulting compared to the outright nastiness that is sometimes spewed from others.
Do you contest that you are NOT different from elle?
