Take it with a grain of salt. I get my nails done every 3 weeks. I notice things like that.
But also, if you can trim/push them back, your short nails will look much longer/healthier.

I haven't had a manicure in years and only recently learnt about cuticle pushing. I promptly went and bought some stuff and it hurt so bad and I gave up. I will try that cuticle eraser. Hopefully it works.
You have to soften them before you push them back. Does it hurt when you get a manicure?

Thanks. I will try them. On a scale of 1 to 10, with 10 being, I don't know how you go out in public, how embarrassing are they?
LOL, don't let your nails keep you from going out in public! But seriously, do not worry about it. I notice everyone's nails. Its what I do. If I could find a way to get paid to do my own nails I would do it.
So do you not cut your cuticles? You only use that Sally Hansen product and push them back?
I have to cut mine. I use a tool like this when I do it myself:

These posts make me regret biting my nails. I can't stop it! grrr. What's my excuse!?!?!?!?!!!
My natural nails are such shit (thin, break easily, can't grow them even to the ends of my fingers) and I pick at the sides SO bad. My nail beds/cuticles are actually healthier when I get acrylics regularly. i don't pick as much. I get them really short though. You'd be hard-pressed to tell that they're fake right now.

I wonder if that would help me? Does that help you with stop picking at them, etc? I want to have fun wearing nail polish!

keeping my nails painted helps prevent me from biting them. I bit them like every other day in nursing school (wasn't allowed nail polish) but once I graduated, I almost never left my nails bare. I also take biotin for nail strength.

I still pick a little, but I do MUCH less damage when my nail beds are not exposed.
Plus, I am essentially getting a manicure once a month, so I don't have to DIY and make a mess of everything. Sometimes I still go a little overboard on my toes, going after hangnails.

Hey berbles, my nails are brittle and break easily too. I'd love to get some put on, so is that what I ask for if I go to a nail salon? Acrylics? I honestly don't know the first thing.

Yeah. I get gel acrylic, which has a UV-set top coat. I can go 3+ weeks between fills, and the color rarely chips/breaks; it's still shiny 3 weeks later. But I also get my nails very short, so the grow-out is less noticeable.
Now here's the thing - you have to keep it up. Putting them on and taking them off will REALLY destroy your nails. So you have to commit to it. But for me, it's worth the $60/month (that's a ped/fill + tip) to keep my hands looking nice, giving me fingernails I can actually do stuff with (like open stuff and scratch my leg through my jeans) without breaking all my nails AND the pedicures keep me from getting really bad ingrown toenails.
Nothing I just get irrationally excited when I come across a "new" black person on GBCN. I don't know why. It's not like we all sit at the same lunch table and shit.
Thanks. Just push them while in the shower with your nails and then come out and do the rest of the steps. My cuticles are super attached to my nails, I think. They feel a little sore and it stung when I did the dishes but not too bad.
I'm going to do this on my toes. Great idea. I neglect my toe cuticles but I push back my finger cuticles all then time out of habit.
