I purchased this (www.express.com/cotton-sateen-ruched-sleeve-jacket-42998-1010/index.pro) jacket from Express (which I love), but a couple of weeks ago (yes, I know I'm terrible for not trying to clean it before now), I was out with friends at a restaurant with a chalkboard hallway to the restroom. Chatting with a fellow queuer, I leaned up against the wall and got red/pink colored chalk along the sleeve of the jacket.
The directions say to machine wash cold with like colors, only non-chlorine bleach when needed. Line dry. For best results, dry clean.
Normally, I take all of my suit pieces from there in for dry cleaning, but something tells me actual washing might get the colored chalk out of this jacket better than dry cleaning. I think I'm mainly worried about ruining the shape (it IS a blazer, after all), or the texture of the fabric.
So, what would F&B do? Machine wash, or dry clean?
Just updating to say that I checked with no less than three different dry cleaners who told me in no uncertain terms that they wouldn't touch the jacket. I contacted Express corporate, explained my dilemma, and they told me to go ahead and try to wash it. If it gets ruined (which is highly likely, given the fact that it's a blazer), they'll replace it for free.
Nice to know that the company at least stands behind it's products, yeah?
