I hope I don't offend people here, but I generally hate those types of motorcycles. Around here, those are the ones that are driven in a manner that is pretty reckless. People on regular Harley type motorcycles? Totally cool.
I agree with you. But my opinion is marred by a fatal crotch rocket accident I saw a couple years ago. I get anxiety just see them drive recklessly now. I would have been so panicky if I had been in that SUV. Like full blown attack. I can't say I wouldn't have fled too if they swarmed me, let alone the rest of that scenario.

My dad drove a bike way back in the 60s and 70s, but stopped because he was tired of cars not respecting him as another vehicle on the road and nearly getting hit one too many times. I always remember that and give bikes plenty of space on the road/highway.
It is pisses me off when I see people driving recklessly or in an intimidating manner, be they in a car or on a motorcycle. It is scary.
You have to know the back story on these motorcyclists. They are a bunch of assholes who turn the road into their own playground. They cut through red lights only because there are 100's of them. They also harass and attack other drivers. They are reckless and out of control.
I'd also heard a bit on the back story, Alyssa, & am horrified @ this whole story for many reasons. One of the biggest being the horrible biker stereotypes that they are reigniting. Just disgusting.

My DH had one of those type of motorcycles and would often take Sunday morning rides with his friends from work. They weren't reckless with them. There are assholes on every type of motor vehicle, not just those kind of motorcycles.
I knew someone would have a comment like this. I was just stating what I see around my area, i realize that not all people who own or drive that type of bike are reckless assholes. I actually went on a date, which consisted a ride on one like it, and it was fun.
Cleo, we have an area around here that has bike gangs who ride the crotch rockets. They ride like such assholes doing wheelies while going down major highways, cutting people off, speeding up slowing down, etc. Of course, not everyone who drives one is crazy, but you can't help but hate them all when you see them on the roads. It may not be fair to the "good guys," but it's how it is. Cars cause stereotypes.
We were leaving Philly on Sunday and were surrounded by a group of them in traffic. I didn't feel like we were in danger bc we were barely moving, but they just had an attitude like we weren't there. They were weaving in and out of us and barely clipping our cars. Everyone had to stop short bc of the way they were driving. It was ridiculous.
I say this as a motorcycle rider myself, I truly believe that some of those bikers were intentionally instigating other drivers and banked on the fact that no one would dare run them over.
Being threatened in any way on the highway, particularly when my child in the car will result in me getting my kids to safety no matter the cost without one iota of guilt.
When you are on a motorcycle of any kind there are different rules and courtesies of the road. This group of bikers are obviously not observing those and are opening the door wide for trouble to start.
I'm irrationally angry about the mentality of this biker's family. I understand being upset about what happened to your son/husband, but you have to realize that he had some responsibility in what happened to him. He wasn't an innocent victim here.
I feel bad that the SUV driver's name is out now. I can only assume what those crazy bikers are doing to his house/property, etc. It's just so scary to think about.
The story I heard from a law enforcement friend in NY is that a huge group of bikers had met up for an event/ride but that was broken up by police, so they took to the streets to do tricks. That's why the one biker had a gopro on his helmet. They were riding around, doing tricks and harassing drivers (knocking on their windows, weaving in and out, etc.) and they came up to the black SUV. The wife in the SUV started using her cell phone to videotape the riders which pissed them off. That's when they started really swarming around the SUV and eventually the one rider cut in front and came to a stop, causing the SUV to hit him. Then the rest goes on as described by pp's above.
According to my friend, the police have the video from the wife's cell phone, but have not released it yet.
I've been slowed to a stop in traffic by a group of crotch rocker bikers before. We were two cars back from the bikes that slowed traffic down. We were so confused.
This group didn't harass the cars, but they did it so they could have their own drag race. It was pretty quick. By the time we figured out it wasn't some weird emergency ( from the sounds of their acceleration), they were gone. We still called the cops, but saw nothing else.
It was the middle of the night, so I guess they thought they could get away with it. Before this, I had only seen that stuff in movies.
