Um. She said she was warned to "be more cautious" (not that she shouldn't leave the kids in the car), and that "...if the investigator thought there was a problem with what happened, what she did, the case would not have been closed that quickly. Especially after reviewing the security tapes and talking to everyone." So she's saying that CPS doesn't think she did anything wrong, even though her "friend" wont do it again because she doesnt want to be further investigated.
Are you not reading the same things I am?
I AM reading the same things, and I'm being serious, I have no idea what you are reading into this.
They warned her to be more cautious. Ok??? CPS assigned a new investigator. So clearly they had some problem with the original one. Both the police and CPS via the new investigator said they found no problems and they're closing the case.
Like Trixie said, what do you think they *should* have done to her??
Absolutely you can get in trouble for calling in a false report. My sister did this when she was being investigated and ended up being charged with a misdemeanor for doing it. It was later pled down, but she was charged. In itself I don't think calling was her place as the police were there, but she lied. She should have left it to the officer.
And mrsbpo I agree about the protocol. That's why I mentioned it here after she told me.
It wasn't false, there WERE 3 kids left in a car. She may have lied about the timeline but it's not a false report.
But she DID falsify information in said report. This whole thing makes me angry. Clearly, it was NOT a wise decision to leave 3 kids in a car, even for a very short amount of time, but that nurse was extremely overzealous, (scared the crap out of the kids, too) and lied about multiple things to try to get this mother into more trouble. Seriously, there are kids out there who really ARE abused and have unfit parents, who need the attention of CPS--this doesn't sound, at all, like it's one of them.

Are you Trixie's "friend"?
No.
I am just baffled at the number of people who are calling MUD on this.

I said she lied. Anyone can call CPS for anything they want to, no, this woman wasn't beating her kids but they were left alone in a car. Imo, that's enough of a reason.
But leaving kids unattended in a car is not a crime (as far as I'm aware). If it was, the mother would have gotten in trouble with the police.
If something had happened to the kids, then depending on what that was, THEN maybe the mother would have gotten in trouble. BUT NOTHING HAPPENED. The kids were not in imminent danger, and that is why the police considered it closed AND why they weren't going to contact CPS in the first place. No crime was committed.
I stand corrected. But obviously not in Trixie's state?? Because otherwise the mother would have been charged. Again - you can't prosecute someone for something that didn't happen but might have.
I don't buy this at all. She leaves her kids locked in a car and the nurse is in trouble for reporting it, but everything is good with CPS? Makes no sense to me.
It makes a lot of sense to me.
Thanks for updating - I'm glad that this worked out and a more reasonable CPS investigator was assigned.
I think people who call unnecessary and malicious reports into CPS should face consequences.

A cop was called and that's not enough for you? CPS needed to be called as well. After THREE minutes and with a cop there? JFC this just seems insane to me!

It's illegal in many states and certainly still dumb in the rest. It only takes a few seconds for something really bad to happen. Not to mention she left a sick 2yr old in the car.
Beats head on desk. We're going to have to agree to disagree on this.

There's really nothing to disagree about. Something can go tragically wrong in just a few seconds. It doesn't matter if it's not likely, it CAN happen. I would not be willing to take that risk.
There are lots of scenarios in which something can go tragically wrong in just a few seconds. In fact almost every scenario in life. I think the cop was able to handle this 3 minute mistake by himself without the help of CPS. So I'm afraid we disagree whether you agree to or not.
I agree she shouldn't have left the kids in the car, but what do people think should have happened? She was investigated by CPS. Should she have been arrested?
I wish we could all just agree that she shouldn't have left her kids in the car in the first place and be done with it. But nooooo.
Yes, THIS is what I would like.
Now personally I would like world peace...
Really, though, you can't possibly expect everyone on a message board to have the same opinion as yourself. I think some interesting points have been brought up. I think some passionate feelings have been shared. But to expect a diverse population of people, from so many backgrounds, places in life and geographical locations to agree on this is absurd.
You each have every right to your opinion. But at the end of the day that's all it is-YOUR opinion on what should have happened.
I did not realize though that I didn't give our state, I thought it was in my profile, but we are in Michigan.
Sec 135a A person who is responsible for the care or welfare of a child shall not leave that child unattended in a vehicle for a period of time that poses an unreasonable risk of harm or injury to the child or under circumstances that pose an unreasonable risk of harm or injury to the child.
