It's cool they got a picture, and interesting they delivered in the caul by c-section.
I'm still trying to figure out how my comment was out of line in the other thread. It is very uncommon to begin with, and now it's really unlikely a doctor (or even midwife OMG) would bother delivering vaginally without breaking the water at some point.

Yeah, I was really confused about what was wrong with your comment too. I thought maybe she just thought it was gross? Or that you were comparing farm animals to babies or something? I don't know.

That picture is amazing!
Token -- I didn't think your comment was out of line at all. It is super rare, and I think it would be cool to see a human baby or an animal baby born in the caul!
I think it's hard for some people to get over the fact that birth is birth and we're not very different than animals when we're having a baby. Perhaps it's easier to accept that once you've done it (no matter how you do it).

I was born with a caul and the doctor told my mother sailors buy them for good luck. I was also born with the cord twice around my neck (hence the entanglement) so she said I had used up all the caul's good luck, but I don't know if she actually sold it. I'll have to ask what happened to it.
That is bizarre. I don't even understand why that would be an issue.
My water broke as I started pushing both times (my OB offered to break it before that both times, but I told her not to, and she had no issue with that). I was totally hoping I would have a caul birth.

I saw at least a couple of horses born in the caul when I was a kid. In fact I remember thinking that was hos they were all born. I don't see what's gross about it.
Oh no -- I'm the one who asked about it in the last thread ,but then I never went back and saw the respose. I'm sorry to hear that it sounds like I may have sparked a downturn in the thread?
At any rate, THANKS for posting this. What an amazing, amazing photo.

Oh, don't worry. The thread took a BIG downturn, but it wasn't your fault!
One person left the thread in a huff because she was (somehow, I really don't understand how) offended by token's response to you. The downturn was unrelated :-)
So what actually happens to the cull once the baby is out? Do they break it then? Preserve it somewhere? This is fascinating! Thanks for posting.
As far as I know they break it then (have to get the baby out after all). I don't think they preserve it. I think it is one of those things that kind of disinergrates quickly.
