I use a bag over my hand to pick it up each time they poop. I have to do it immediately bc there are kids playing in my yard constantly and I don't want them to step in it.
We used to shovel/throw away, but got tired of it and switched to feeding raw. Their poop volume has dropped dramatically and it disintegrates faster so it just disappears.
can you give me info (or send me to a good website) on feeding raw? what kind of dog do you have and what is the cost? what recipes do you use and how do you know they are getting enough/the right balance of nutrients? i would love to ease into feeding raw but the cost frightens me, as well as having no idea what/how much to feed each of our dogs.
I compiled my info from a variety of websites, mostly aiming for "prey model" which is basically trying to imitate if I gave them a whole animal. I have a 55lb boxer and 30lb beagle and give about 2.5% body weight a day. I give a mix of liver, fish, egg, organs and bone-in chicken and pork.
I pick up the poop once a week, on the morning the gardeners come. If the kids decide they want to play in the backyard, then I pick up the poop at that time.
You weren't using a poop scooper?? How were you trying to pick it up?
When we had a yard, we picked it up once a week and tossed it. We would line a small trash can with a grocery bag, then toss the grocery bag in the big trash can.
The way you do it in a walk, with a bag over your hand! The poops are pretty small, but I think I could contain the crumbles better with a scooper.
Haha ohhh. That seems like it would take forever. I think you're definitely better off with a scooper. I prefer the dustpan and rake version over the kind that opens and clamps shut.
