The party is for the parents. NO KID will remember their first birthday party so who cares if it's in a ballroom with fancy lighting or just a homemade cake and some candles at home? It's the parents call.
Jesus. I thought I was doing good picking a theme. Apparently I'm a slacker parent and poor poodle Morgan is going to have a lame 1st b-day party... LOL

If they want to throw themselves a party for surviving the first year why not? There money and time. The first bday is about the parents not the kid anyway so while I wouldn't go that crazy if thats what they want to spend money on whatever.
I don't understand why this rubs people the wrong way so hard. They want to throw a big party. It looks awesome. So what? I love big shindigs like that. I don't see it as a waste of money if they had a blast and had fun with their guests.

It doesn't even look fun. So you sit around a table with peeps and do what? I guess just drink. Maybe there was some good entertainment but the pics remind me of a boring corporate event.

Ditto. "Poor little girl"...I don't think so! I'd rather go to a party like that then another boring 1st birthday party with cold pizza.

No first birthday party is really about the kid. It's about the parents. Why not throw a big party that adults will actually enjoy, if you can swing it?
Obviously the parents are living through their child, this has nothing to do with her, it's all about them. Also helps to have excess cash on hand to go overboard.
oh FFS, if we can't even judge My Super Sweet I Can't Even Walk Yet, then what can we judge
I AM JUDGING THIS.
because on ML if somebody does something that is totally insane, but is LEGAL, then the only acceptable response is "there's nothing WRONG with this!! as long as it makes them happy!!! "
It's totally legal to walk around your neighborhood in a bat bird leotard and take photos of yourself, though
So I watch Cake Boss and when they throw parties for their kids, they throw these giant parties and invite everyone and their brother. They do it more so just as an excuse to have a party.
And I think this is where this party comes into play. An excuse to throw a giant party and impress their friends and family under the guise of a birthday party.
It's too much effort and money for my taste but hey, if you want to party - you go ahead and party.

Many are. Neither is right or wrong and any kind of party is fine, but there are plenty of 1st birthday parties just about the kids.
