Ok @tambcat so I have raging anxiety and am an obsessive worrier and while I think Lshoes post was super bitchy I too am freaking out I'll kill my kitty.
So. Uh, what should I be feeding her? I budget $35/mo in Cat Expenses and she doesn't usually go through a bag a month.
ETA - no special diets, though she HATES change and is super sensitive. I once gave her a BITE of tuna - literally a BITE - and she pooped all over my apartment for an entire 15 hours. (and yes, i took her to the vet for this. lol the vet was like, "she's not dying. but here, buy this $40 bag of food and feed it to her." omg.)
I don't think cats are dying left and right from eating Science Diet. Don't stress!
I just went and got her some Purina One Sensitive Systems. Hopefully she'll stop puking. She lived off Meow Mix for 15 years, so this is still a step up. Lol
Grain Free Nature's Domain from Costco which is $20 for a big bag. I think you know me. I'd be happy to give you some if you want to try her on it. Did you transition slowly?

That's how much the Blue Buffalo is. I fed her the Basics. If I start working again, I'll go back to it.

I am interested in other options as well, since they are on science diet. They are healthy, and have never puked. Right now they are still on kitten food

Hmm,I didn't. Do you think that's why she threw up? We do have a Costco membership and that's a good price.
Wellness Core Fish and Fowl, it is one of the best rated dry cat foods. It is $24 for a 6 pound bag from wag.com and I think that is pretty reasonable as far as top dry cat foods. It lasts us a few months because her main food is wellness core/avoderm/california natural wet food. I feed Earthborn Holistic to my dog and their cat food line is $32 for a 14 pound bag, and I am contemplating switching to that.
We used to do cheapo food too, but she never really did well on it (pukey, bad stools, not ideal coat, etc.) and she is nine years old now and I'm not ready to make any major decisions about her health any time soon so I went on a huge crazyfest trying to better her care and diet.
Purina one. It's like $11 a bag for 7 or 8 lb bag. The vet compliments her fur every year.
Be careful switching foods with your cat. They have sensitive stomachs and you need to mix a little of the new food into the old food, gradually increasing the amount of new foods. An abrupt change to any cat food can make them sick.

It is kind of like buying dior foundation at sephora for years, and then all of a sudden you are told that cvs has a better foundation in cover girl lol

She used to eat Purina...indoor weight control or something like that.
We switched to crazy expensive Blue Buffalo Weight Control because she was having digestive issues. We also sprinkle probiotics on her food a couple times a week. Spoiled fancy cat.

Maybe? My old cat used to be able to eat whatever and as he got older, it definitely wasn't the same and I have to transition 25%, 50%, 75% new to old food.
I think it's either made by Wellness or Wilderness so it's a really good food for a good price. It's in an orange plastic bag. They didn't have it up at the Costco at 92nd and Sheridan but they have it at 50th and Wads.

Just shitty Meow Mix. Our younger cat seems to like blue buffalo dog food (with salmon!)
I sometimes give them tuna, and they've been into scrambled eggs, chicken breast, scrambled eggs, and almond milk. Also, coffee, but I nipped that in the bud ASAP.
ETA: Now I'm all embarrassed after reading all the posts. That's what I get for being all anecdotal and lighthearted :?

Yeah, she's always been a good eater, just had a lot of hairballs. But I know her tummy is probably more sensitive now that she's getting older.

A lot of vet nutrition info is sponsored by Science Diet so it's pretty biased. Cats are obligate carnivores so the grain is really bad for them. Apparently they also need canned food. I haven't gotten there yet.
Like PP mentioned, avoid corn, look for a whole meat protein as the first ingredient (e.g., chicken, not chicken by-product meal), avoid by-product meal, animal digest. You want proteins high on the list and grains lower. I think that yeast is not supposed to be great either, although it is in a lot of food. I mean SD is not horrible, but you could get more bang for your buck. I wish I could find the website I used to use, but Wellness, Blue Buffalo, Taste of the Wild, Evo are good. Chicken Soup for the Cat Lover's Soul is sort of considered the lower price good option. I think Felidae too... it might be more expensive, I can't remember.
It's honestly all kind of fuzzy now because we've been doing the Kirkland brand for so long. If we only had one cat, we would probably do Wellness, but we feel the Kirkland's is a good compromise for us. It's not awesome, but it's pretty good.
Grain Free stuff is great, but it gives our cat Maggie the shits, so we can't do that.
This is helpful. Thanks I don't care so much about the price. I just want them to be healthy and happy

I'll check for the food, thank you!
Probiotics can be helpful too. You're welcome! My pets have done really well on the Nature's Domain. I got rid of the bladder crystals my dog had.

I have also had pukey kitties in the past, and these two have never puked, so I hate to mess with a good thing, but I don't want them to be sick either. I want them to have the best food.

I haven't either
When I heard, I was all "WTF? Cats are supposed to be low maintenance." If they sold the same brand at Costco, I might be able to swing it but I keep forgetting to buy anything.
