We have a programme in London called The Big Issue. This allows homeless to sell the magazine, The Big Issue, in certain places (and they have to have a vendor license to do it). I totally support it and there is one woman who works near my local grocery store. I give her cash for the magazine every time I go (I try to make sure I have some). I figure it's my way of supporting the homeless and hopefully this woman will one day no longer have to sell it.
And, to be honest, I don't work in an area with a large amount of homeless. My approach could be exhausting otherwise.
Lol. Yes. Another sad reality is that given the volume of folks on the street in some urban areas, you can't be in the regular practice of giving money because there wouldn't be a good way to stop. I pass 11 people on my walk to work that I can think of. And that's just regulars, not itinerant people passing through. It's sad.

Oh yeah, I'll usually buy a "Street Sheet" when I see someone selling it.

We have this here too. It's called spare change here. It's a great program.
