"I also won't support Make A Wish because they get puppies from Petland for wishes and refused to even consider going a different route (or how about NOT giving a terminally ill child a living animal?)"
Ummm ^o) :@ :N: I get the Petland part, but not wanting them to get their final wish of having a dog?? WTF?
I don't have a problem with giving the kid the pet, but I hope they check with the parents first and make sure that they will keep it after the kid passes.

Make A Wish isn't just for terminally ill children. My cousin has burkitt's lymphoma in is abdomen, it's a type of cancer that is more often than not curable. MAW is sending him to swim with the dolphins when he gets the green light from his doctor. Burkitt's mostly happens in children so my cousin has a few friends in the clinic that MAW has worked with and one of them got a puppy. They asked his parents to make sure the puppy would be taken care of if the kid was in the hospital or couldn't take care of the dog and they agreed. I didn't read the post so maybe they were specifically talking about terminally ill children.. I still thought I'd share that

No, she's not crazy. It's not crazy to be opposed to puppy mills, even for dying children.
I see getting a puppy for a dying child in a similar vein to getting a puppy for Christmas. Is there any thought put into the dog's care after? If there is, fine, but too many people view animals as disposable. Do mom and dad ditch the dog when there's no longer a kid begging to have it?
I did overreact for a moment after reading her post and shouldn't have said "crazy" because that is her opinion. I do believe it was a bit rude the way she said the bolded part. As decemberrain said, MAW isn't just for dying children and the way she worded it was harsh (that pissed me off).
That being said, I do hope they get parental consent and do some kind of contract stating the animal will continued to be cared for in case anything were to happen. I also agree they shouldn't use puppymills but should adopt them.
