My severely obese grandma, who only ever had one job in her life and it was part-time in a concession stand for two years for fun because she got bored at home, manages to bring up in every conversation I have with her how expensive her medicare is and how little her SS checks cover. She goes on and on and on about how she paid in to the system and now it is screwing her over. She completely ignores her doctor's advice and stopped seeing her endocrinologist altogether when he told her that if she didn't start following his diet she would die. She called him a quack. So every few weeks she is in the hospital over something that is almost always diabetes-related and the only thing she is willing to do to deal with it is increase her insulin, which of course means she whines even more about how expensive her medications are.
And then she sits at home watching Fox news complaining about how entitled the younger generation is.
Ya know, since we're throwing anecdotes out there...

Bottom line, you can't put out a social program based on one set of conditions and not revisit it when the conditions changes. All have to be willing to make a sacrifice including young, old and in between.

Hopefully, your grandmother stays away from most of the people on this board. She is not only old, but obese, so they would probably run over her, if they saw her out and about.

Um, you should know if you only make 50,000, than you really should not buy a 300,000 dollar house. If you can't do basic math, is it the fault of all the banks?
If you know someone only makes $50,000, aren't you a moron for lending them $300,000 that you know they'll never be able to repay?
If you run a bank and can't do basic math, how is that my fault?

I think thats a great combination. I can grab her Hostess pie and not have to worry about her chasing me

Dude, do you know how many people my grandma has run over with her rascal in Wal-mart? If someone here ran over her it would only be karma returning the favor.

TEARS!!
Also, nugget is killing me in this thread. Fortunately health care is still affordable, so this works out well.

I was thinking the same thing.
I think we all know that I am the queen of rascal sightings. Those fuckers are FAST!
1) I am not average, and I never have been. Always above average. I even have A+ blood.
2) I don't really give a shit if people want to fight paying property taxes for funding public schools if they don't have kids in them. For one, I'm not a huge fan of public education - I am 100% privately educated by the good Catholics. The only reason my child will be attending public school this fall is b/c MH strongly believes in it and we're trying it out. For two, I agree that an educated populace benefits us all. I mean, how the hell else are my kids going to be able to afford to pay for MY Social Security? For three, I'm not asking anyone else to take care of my kids. I don't sit here with my hand out, insisting that I'm owed something b/c I managed to make a sperm meet an egg. Unlike old people, who think we should take care of them b/c they did such an awesome job and deserve such respect.
3) Once again, I don't want to take your mother's SS check. Or my mother's. Or my grandmother's. I want them to quit lobbying against change and acting like we're throwing them out on the street even if nothing is changed for them and it's changed for the future. But I don't expect you to understand that since you apparently subscribe to the AARP newsletter and are arguing like you are my 82 year old grandma who is convinced that everyone is out to take her fucking SS check away from her.
4) I'd rather be a self absorbed asshole than willfully obtuse and so lacking in intelligence that I have to resort to attacks on someone's appearance!
Unattractive people always pick on the intelligence of someone else. Your long rant proves what I said... got to you.
Wait, wut? So now all ugly people are also mean and jealous of the pretty people who are always smart? Did I just walk onto the set of Mean Girls or some shit?
