Okay even though I didn't and wouldn't formally announce at work, I just want to reiterate that it is NOT the announcement that irked me. You can announce without a multi-step surprise reveal. She obviously has email, the email led people to the cookies. We don't live in some alternate universe where papyrus was never created and all we have to express ourselves are carbohydrates and pastry bags.
Oh, this is the reveal? Yeah, sorry hon, but nobody cares that much. When I told my CWs I was pregnant on Monday, they were just like "oh, huh, congrats." Although they probably would have been more excited if there had been cookies involved.
eta: Okay, bah humbugs aside, I do think that your irritation is probably mostly a personality thing. I felt uncomfortable announcing my pregnancy this time for some reason and let my mom tell a bunch of people because it was easier that way. I AW a lot on here, but IRL, I am doing the one FB post revealing the pregnancy and the gender at the same time thing. I get excited for people when I find out they are pregnant, but the cutesy reveal aspect of this would have been annoying and actually counteracted the excitement I would have felt at a simple announcement. My H, on the other hand, probably would love this kind of thing. If he were a woman, he'd be all over pinterest looking for cute ideas.
Here's another part of it.
At the risk of expressing an unpopular opinion, this is simply something that a man would never do.
And I don't want to be treated any differently from my male counterparts.
People who are interested and care about whether I'm having a child will find out.

I almost forgot to add my frustrating update from today. I tried to find out whether the cookies were homemade or special ordered, and neither my mom nor the principal (who is my friend) actually SAW the cookies with their own eyes!! It was parent/teacher conferences yesterday so both of them were crazy busy and never made it down to the break area. Apparently they were described to both of them but nobody said whether they were homemade. Principal said she asked the teacher to send her a picture so she could "show it to her friend who is looking for creative pregnancy announcement ideas!" so hopefully I will find out soon. I'll see her tomorrow and I'm hoping she'll have gotten a picture text by then.
I didn't see my dad today so I'm not sure if he saw the cookies. I don't trust any of the other teachers not to wonder why I care so much and talk about me behind my back if I ask them. I might be able to ask one of my counselor friends on Monday.
I'm not sure why this particular detail is plaguing me but for some reason the story feels incomplete without it.

We have this benefit auction everyone will be at tomorrow, so I'll have some wine and do some digging. Apparently one of the other staff members told the principal how totally stupid she thought it was so she might be a safe one to ask too.
Finding this out without betraying the sweet (totally opposite of bitter bitch) image I've worked so hard to cultivate there will be a delicate business.

I will not back down from this.
I now officially love you, and wish to adopt you as my own. You are a woman after my own heart.
I was distracted by the thought of free cookies, but seriously. This woman is nuts. I get it, she's pregnant .Whatever.
What I don't get is you (Coribelle) said you already knew she was pregnant before the cookies. Did everyone know? If so, I REALLY don't get the cookie announcement.

cleo29 I'm sorry, I do remember you mentioned that earlier and I forgot to respond. I knew about it because she told our boss who told me (which was not great of her but I didn't tell anyone else). I assume some of her close friends there knew but it was not common knowledge and hadn't been announced in any way before Cookiegate.

You know that bitch got those custom from a bakery. Probably the same one that did her wedding cake because details like that matter to people like her. And she told the owner when placing the order hoping she'd get a discount.
