Okay ladies, cross everything you can for me. A friend is coming through for me and I'm going to chat with her friend that has to drop out of the full in a little while. We're boarding our plane to ft Myers soon (didn't take the flight last night, too upset to think straight at that point).
I'll let you know as soon as I know
And yeah, I am way too zen about this whole shitstorm. Mostly because there's nothing I can do but try to adapt to the situation without rupturing any blood vessels in my brain. That wouldn't be very H&F.
so unreal. safe travels and hope you get into space coast.

holy mother of pearl. I am so impressed. Go and enjoy yourself in Florida, and everything that I can cross is crossed that you get this bib. Try to enjoy yourself regardless, it sounds like your attitude is amazing.
Definitely pulling for it to work out for you. Add me to the chorus of people so impressed by how well you are handling this. And WHEN (not if) you run your marathon, you are going to totally destroy it.
I really appreciate the concern from everyone. Don't get me wrong, I'm gutted. But I know there's another marathon out there for me. I've got 25284638306 (actual Number) pleas out there for a space coast bib, with a couple of decent leads. We got put up in a swank hotel last night for free and I'm having an excellent breakfast this morning, after roughly 14373846. (Again, actual number) manhattans last night.
And if anyone doubted fate- our flight that we should have been on last night was ridiculously late leaving, and didn't get in until after our original flight was supposed to go to florence. We wouldn't have made it there on Friday regardless, and Saturday would have been a stretch.
Today's goal is to get another marathon bib. That should in theory be easy enough, right?
Seriously!? It does seem like fate did not want you to run that marathon. And now you got into another one!! Kinda convenient, definitely less pre-race stress…..I guess you were meant to run this race instead so I imagine you are going to totally rock it.
Oooh, and you're getting lucky with the cold front pushing through. Historically, it can still be quite warm down there that time of year. Looks like most of your race will be in the 60s and NO RAIN!! :)Yay!!
T minus 8 days 4 hours 22 minutes until I unleash an ass-whooping on Cape Canaveral.
You rock! I hope you have a wonderful race in Florida. I'm sure there is a huge sense of loss about Italy & your plans, but I'm so proud of you for picking yourself up & finding another marathon.
Cheering for you!!
P.S.Better lay off the Manhattans now until after race day. Lots of water & rest for you!
Oh man, I thought when you said "Naples" you meant Italy. I was a little confused about how you'd be back in time for Cape Canaveral...
And, for everyone so pissed with the airline, that's just the way it works, especially around holidays. I am a gate agent at a tiny airport and we had to involuntary bump 4 people on the last two outbound flights tonight because the flight was overbooked. The computer automatically generates a list of people who will be bumped if there aren't any volunteers/no-shows, and FWIW, it typically ranks by the price of the ticket. If you absolutely HAVE to get on a flight, pay the extra $$ to have a confirmed seat or book directly through the airline's website, not a wholesale travel agent.
'Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body. But rather, to skid in sideways, chocolate in one hand, wine in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out, screaming 'Woohoo! What a ride!' So every day is a holiday and every meal a feast."

I understand that airlines overbook, but I don't agree with it. Unless it is different in the US, in my experience if you pay for a ticket and don't show up, the airline keeps the money and you have to buy a new ticket. So if all seats are booked, the airline has gotten their cash for the flight. It's therefore greedy to sell the same seat twice in the hope that some people miss it.
i feel awful for the passengers who get involuntarily bumped and awful for the gate staff that have to tell them.

I think, then, that it must be different in the U.S. People who are bumped because the flight is oversold get put up in a hotel, multiple meal vouchers, a rebooked flight AND a significant voucher to use on their next flight. That said, the airline is selling more seats than it actually has on the flight BUT people who buy tickets from 3rd party vendors aren't actually guaranteed a seat. Check out the fine print on Travelocity or Pricleline.

Oh wow, I did not know that about third party vendors! You definitely get compensated here if you get bumped but what I was saying is that if you miss your flight due to your own fault the airline will make you buy a new ticket. And that's why I disagree with overbooking, because they have gotten the money for the flight anyway. Anyway, I don't want to start an argument, I think we can agree it sucks all round for those affected.
No problem - I don't know enough about the situation to argue and actually just learned this myself the other night. It was fascinating so I had to share.
Apparently there is a family of five here who book tickets at the busy time around spring break and then volunteer to be bumped. They end up with free hotel rooms, free meals, a nice monetary compensation and rebooked flights. Cha Ching!

Florida weather is so frustrating. It was supposed to be arctic temperatures Thursday and sweltering hot on Sunday. Now it will be warmer on Thursday, not so hot on Sunday and there's a 30% chance of rain. UGH!!!!!

On the bright side, it's FL. When is there NOT a 30% chance of rain? lol That's a normal day. You guys will be fine. You're still too far out for precipitation forecasts. Step away from the weather.
