Boy Dutch names

If we have a boy DH wants to have its middle name be Dutch as I will be giving birth in the Netherlands. He REALLY likes Michele (pronounced Me-heel), I am not a huge fan. I was hoping you guys could help me think of another name for a boy that has Dutch origin.

The first name is going to be Taylor.

I should say if we have a girl we are using my BFF first name as she is going to be godmother.

I like Willem or Steef. I think people would understand that they're Dutch, but also understand what the name is. My issue with the "Michael" names is that it's often looks like and/or sounds like the American "Michelle" which is so feminine. I guess I'm assuming that you're American, but that's a confusion that I would avoid.

Yeah we are American and will probably be moving back to the States for good in 2 years.

Oooh, I like Taylor Willem:-) I think that would be "easier" on him after a move back to the US. People will be familiar with the name, know (more or less) how to pronounce it, and won't confuse it for a girl's name.

If the boy is Taylor Michele I think in the US people will constantly think he is a girl. I would choose a more boy-ish middle name.

The cirrect spelling for thw name your DH likes is Michiel. Michele is a Dutch girls name or Italian boys name.

Here are sime relaruvely commin Dutch boys names:
Johannes (biblical, Dutch form of John) is a common Dutch middle name. Willem, Steef/Stefan/Stephan, Jacob(us), Hans, (El/Al)Bert(us), Laurens, Marcel, (Se)Bastiaan/Bas , Evert, Michiel, Remco, Dirk, Martijn, Robert/Robbert, Pepijn, Jasper, Jeroen, Sander, Joris, Fred, Gerard, Luuk (Dutch common form of Lucas), Edwin, Erwin, Pieter.

And that's all I can think of right now.

I agree that you should avoid Taylor Michele since Taylor is a unisex name in the States and Michele looks feminine in English, although apparently that's not the right male Dutch spelling of Michael? Anyway, I really like Taylor Willem, but that's just my 2 cents. :- )

Also, I would kinda avoid names with ch or g, as they're pronounced with the harsh Dutch G sound which no-one can or will pronounce correctly.

(The pronunciation of the name your. DH is talking about is Me-Geel, with the G being harsh from the back if the throat).

My vote is for Bastiaan or Evert. I'm just going off NLfoodie's list because I know jack about Dutch names. Willem makes me think Willem Dafoe. Bastiaan makes me think of Neverending Story. Neverending Story is cooler.

Why not go for the Dutch spelling of a classic name? Something like Stefan or Pieter? Of course you then risk the middle name being misspelled a lot.

Otherwise, I'd go for Willem as it definitely sounds good with Taylor!

I really like Willem, but I also like Edwin and Sebastian as well!
