I love looking at people's travel photos, so the "Post your favorite views" was a lot of fun. I was wondering if there would be interest in having a periodic (probably bi-weekly) PIP poll to share travel photos around different themes. Thoughts/Opinions? (I was thinking bi-weekly would make sense since the board doesn't get heavy traffic and it would give people more time to find/upload the photos they want to share.)
And as a starter theme, as an escape from the winter weather, PIP your favorite beach photos!
Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness, and many of our people need it sorely on these accounts. Broad, wholesome, charitable views of men and things cannot be acquired by vegetating in one little corner of the earth all one's lifetime. Mark Twain
Before DH and I were married we went to SILs country house in Norfolk. We went to the beach. I was wrapped in 3 blankets, 2 sweaters and had a windbreaker thing up and was still freezing. Those crazy Brits were swimming.

Every year we go to the UK, and no matter what time of year it is the weather is like those pictures, I swear to God. It is freezing. But my kids love it!

(This beach is so flat that at low tide it's enormous! And even though it's starting to be developed more, it's still incredibly empty. If you look at the full-size image you can see the scale better because you can make out the people and the structure on top of the cliff.)
Another view of Anse Source d'Argent (La Digue, Seychelles)
Most recently: Ilha do Sal, Cabo Verde
Whaler's Bay black sand beach (Deception Island, Antarctica)
GilliC, that last pic of Whaler's Bay is making me shiver--that's not you in the water is it? Look at what the people on the shore are wearing--how can that lady be bikini-clad and in the water?!
Yes, it's me. Here's another photo that one of the zodiac drivers took.
It's a tradition to swim at Deception Island, since there's a sandy beach. Both the water and the air temperature were around 34°F.

Ho-ly crap. This makes no sense at all, LOL. No way in hell could I do that. Did anyone else attempt it? How long were you in the water?
Just about everyone did! Most people just ran out, dove in, and then ran back. Unfortunately I dove too early and ended up with black sand everywhere inside my suit (plust the top slipped off when I hit the bottom), so I had to stand out in the water while I got my boobs covered up and tried to rinse the sand out of my bikini. (Pretty sure that's what I'm doing in that first photo!) Then one of my friends who was later getting undressed didn't want to go alone, so I went back in. That was a mistake. It was ten times worse the second time!
We knew we were swimming that morning, and when we woke up for breakfast it was snowing and windy. Probably the worst weather we had all trip. We were all staring out the window saying, "We have to swim in this?!" But you have to do it. Because when else will you have the chance?! One girl swore there was no way, and she would just live with it. She was so adamant that she didn't wear her swimsuit. So when she finally came around after being on shore for an hour, she had to go in her underwear. So yeah, everyone does it.
Unfortunately almost all of my photos are on a different computer. Does a "beach" underwater photo from swimming with the wild dolphins on the Big Island of Hawaii qualify? There is sand down below, I swear!
Yes! I love penguins. I have a few pictures of them in the Galapagos too, but those aren't on the beach.
Did you get lucky enough to have them swim with you in the Galapagos? We encountered some friendly ones who swam so close to us that our guide was yelling at us to move back. It was so cool.
Yes they jumped in the water near us. On the far side of Pinnicale Rock. Coldest non diving swimming we've done.
Norticprincess, your shot of South Africa made me so excited for our upcoming trip!
And neonpink, I literally Googled and pinned Starfish Beach in Panama to my Pinterest 'Future Travels' board. I'd never seen it before but I absolutely love your photo (and starfish)!
Jealous, I hope you have a great trip! DH leaves next Monday for two weeks for a work trip in Capetown. He and his coworkers have the weekend free and are going shark diving and to a preserve to see cheetah cubs. They have a side trip to Bloemfontein for a meeting, his boss was sad that the company they are visiting set up the hotel. He wanted to stay in the Hobbit hotel. I wasn't cleared to go.
@sfgal530 Bocas Del Toro was amazing for animal life. Starfish beach was stunning. You can just walk around the starfish. Bocas was my favorite part of Panama.
