I've never been to a gtg, but I'm an all or nothing type of person. I always think it's weird that people travel so far just to go to dinner. Just so you know, if you gtg with me, I fully expect you to sleepover, stay for brunch and probably the rest of the day.
AutumnRose25 once took a photo of me asleep on my couch with my glasses on. She's now on my list.
EB mentioned to me yesterday that she thought you lived in Baltimore...or close by.... I'm going to be there in March for a conference. Any chance you would want to grab a drink? I promise to not take pictures of you sleeping.
Gosh, I'm close enough to Baltimore that I could do a GTG with you fine ladies. My social awkwardness tends to hold me back though. :/

Yes! On my local board there was a weird girl who started posting...she had just moved here from a rural area, she had like 3 dogs, 5 cats, bunnies, and big snakes. Everything she posted was just so strange. Anyway she came to a gtg at a park, many of us had our kids there, no one wanted to sit next to her, and then she was sooooo strange the whole time.
Another one, also my local board, we had made the details very public, and this random lurker just showed up. She was very gothic looking, long black hair, looked like a Metallica extra from the 80's. She literally just stood there, staring at everyone. I felt like she was going to pull out a gun and start shooting. She was so scary! My older daughter was a few months old, and they made eye contact and my baby started crying we left shortly after because I just couldn't handle the awkwardness.
This sounds like some kind of social expierement she was doing to y'all. And scary as fuck.
Yeah so there was "weirdo gothic chick" and then another semi-lurker named Corrie showed up too. I didn't even remember meeting Corrie because I was so nervous about the gothic chick. So a few months later, my good friend said "hey so Corrie wants to come to book club" and I was like "that fucking gothic chick?! NO" lol...anyway now Corrie is one of my close friends. Just funny how life works
If any GTGs I attend are awkward, it'll be my fault. I'm awkward.
I've been fortunate. As nervous as I get beforehand, I've met some of my best friends here. I flew to Denver to meet @gypsy, and shared a bed with swizzlestx.
On one hand, I am like "WHY did we wait years to meet?" on the other, I am like - "I totally picked a stranger up from the airport and brought her to stay at my place!"
The one bigger one I went to (four of us total--the fantastic cleo, @weeble and LLL) was awesome, but I felt totally awkward and weird and didn't get drunk because I had to drive my dad's car (lol lol) back to my parent's house (lol some more) and didn't want to be all "so, dad, sorry I totalled your car and got a DUI visiting my internet friends."
Anyway, were I able to drink more I'd probably have been less of a freak.

Haha...right?! And swizzlestx was pregnant. Who knew what kind of crazies we could've been?!

I showed up for the Boston GTG last year without any contact information or real names. I was just counting on recognizing people. I reallly didn't want to ask the bouncer, "Uh. Has anyone showed up looking for Underwater Rhymes?" so I just stood outside for a bit.
I saw saraandmichael outside and thought it was her, so I was sort of squinting at her trying to figure out if I was right or crazy. She thought I was making a bitch face and made a bitch face back. LOL. I was like, "Oops. Guess that's not her." And she was like, "Oh shit. I just made a face at someone who wasn't making a face at me."
Anyway, she went back inside and eventually louloudi87 showed up and we both went inside and found everyone upstairs, including sara.
She's awesome and totally not a bitch, by the way.
well. let me tell you about the great ML gtg of '10 in philly. there were SO many people there that at first, it was supremely awkward. so, to combat the awkwardness, all of the smokers went outside to congregate, b/c that's what smokers do. it was totally normal out on the patio where we bonded over our likelihood of dying of smoking.
well, at one point, i headed inside to mingle with the others. i knew that kirstin was inside and i wanted a piece of that. so, i walk in to a room and it was like a grade 8 dance, with people all standing there awkwardly staring at each other. i picked thorugh some of the food and then got the fuck out of there. lol
but, LTP was a brilliant hostess and somehow manged to get everyone a drink and within the next 30 minutes or so, things started to fall into place.
but there were hints of awkward throughout the night -- for example, there was a lot of weed smoking going on, which made some people visibly uncomfortable, though they were all trying to be cool about it. and then we just got so drunk.
and someone (aheam, not i) passed out in a litter box. if that wasn't awkward enough, she presented herself at brunch in the morning like ain't no thing. the lack of acknowledgement was like that weirdo on real world explosions, lol. it made it awkward.

Of those four, the ONLY one I have to check off my list is cville.

Oh! And one time I called gozf on the phone and prattled on like a child on speed. I'd engaged in some liquid courage just to call her but didn't tell her that, so she was probably all "um, what?!?!?"
She has a really nice, warm voice. Like you want to be her friend forever and confess all your sins. Which I probably did.

My first GTG was a cookie swap at a nesties house. It was too cliquish. Otherwise it was fine. Made a couple friends from it but I don't think they post here.
Did you come to one of the DC Nestie annual cookie swaps? I don't remember meeting you!

Lol! It was pretty awkward inside at the beginning.
I remember making the constipated face at KKD when she walked in because she was so fabulous, she HAD to be IMMM, and I got all anxious, and she looked visibly startled at my reaction.

Lol @gypsy!! I never said that we were super bffs just that they were people I loved on the nest and have "known" for a long time. And I only mentioned it bc of driveway-gate. Lol. Sorry I'm such a weirdo.
I'm glad we got past that awkwardness because I pink puffy heart you!

Because you were in a clique and didn't introduce yourself.
