Holy shit. I know I'm way behind (west coast), but Rachel looks awful! Her face has so many lines and she's scary skinny. Jillian looked horrified!
Eta: At a height of 5'4" and 105#, Rachel's BMI is 18, which is .5 under the normal category. I'm pretty freaked out by that. I really hope they address it and get her back on track to a healthy weight.
I was in a wedding this summer with two people who met on The Biggest Loser. They had each lost ton of weight and looked amazing when I saw them on the show. Sadly they each gained back all their weight plus more. It was really hard to see. I always wondered about the long term success of the contestants.
I've always wondered what percentage of them really keep it off. It's one thing to be away from home where your sole focus and your job, for lack of a better word, is to exercise and lose weight. But it's another thing to get home and go back to your real world and real life and be able to maintain that lifestyle.
The stat I've heard is less than 10% are successful long term. And I'd venture to guess that the only ones who do maintain their weight loss turn it into their career. Trainers, motivational speakers, gym owners, etc. it has to become your whole life. In order to maintain a healthy weight after losing as dramatically as they do, you'd have to work out at least an hour or two a day, 6 days a week for the rest of your life.
I really hope Rachel puts 20lbs or so back on and that she only got that low for the finale. I'm worried she's traded one unhealthy obsession (food) for another (restricting/losing). Anorexia athletica?
Remember, they're all still trying to win $250,000, so they want to be as skinny as possible for the finale.
I think the winners usually put on 10-15 pounds after the season is over--at least that's what I've seen in the past. In a couple of months she'll look better (I hope).
