Good morning half trainees!! Let's kick it off with a poll!
What number half are you training for? (Poll for mobile users - First timer, half-peater, three-peat, 4-5, 6-10, 11-15, 15+ veteran) First timer here, longest I've run to date is 6.2 miles.
What race are you training for? Pittsburgh Half Marathon (5/4)
What motivated you to sign up for your first half? A ton of my friends decided it was the year of the half, there are a few novices, few veterans, ranging in finishing times from 1:40 to upwards of 3 hours. I'm really excited.
How's training going this week? Challenges? Victories? Random thoughts? I don't start training officially until Sunday but all my workouts this week have been great. I'm going to run at lunch today.

What motivated you to sign up for your next one, if this is not your first? I want to break 1:50.
How's training going this week? Challenges? Victories? Random thoughts? The weather is going to be the death of me. I wore shorts on my long run this weekend and today there is freezing rain. Grrr.

What number half are you training for? (Poll for mobile users - First timer, half-peater, three-peat, 4-5, 6-10, 11-15, 15+ veteran) This will be my third.
What race are you training for? Shamrock Half Marathon, VA Beach
What motivated you to sign up for your first half? After having two kids and breastfeeding them each for a year, I wanted to do something to reclaim my body. What motivated you to sign up for your next one, if this is not your first? My first half suuuuucked. I walked the last 5-6 miles. I totally gave up. That afternoon, I decided I needed to try again and I signed up for my second race that day.
How's training going this week? Challenges? Victories? Random thoughts? Fine. My Sat and Sun runs last week were really hard for some reason. Yesterday's run was fine. I'm feeling kind of blah toward life in general right now. It's probably the rain.
What race are you training for? Florida Beach Halfathon 3/23
What motivated you to sign up for your first half? I saw improvements each time I took on a longer distance and knew I wanted to work my way up to it.
How's training going this week? Yesterday was tough when I went out with my run club. I guess I'm sore from my races last Saturday (10k & 5k) so I'm resting today.
What race are you training for? Alamo 13.1 in San Antonio, 3/23/14
What motivated you to sign up for your first half? I had run several 5Ks and a couple 10Ks and knew I wanted more.
What motivated you to sign up for your next one, if this is not your first? The thrill of crossing the finish line, the sense of accomplishment, and the constant hunt for a PR
How's training going this week? Challenges? Victories? Random thoughts? I'm having a lot of trouble coming back after the marathon (2.5 weeks ago). I took a full week off (which was planned, so that's fine). A week after the marathon I went out for 2-3 miles as a test run and came home after 1.8 miles with knee pain. And I haven't run since then :/ As soon as I drop DD2 off at preschool this morning I'm going to try again. My running schedule is complicated by the fact that DH is OOT for work M-Th and the girls have had a couple school cancellations due to weather. I finally have a day all to myself today, so I'll give it a go. I'm hoping taping it up will be the answer!
What number half are you training for? (Poll for mobile users - First timer, half-peater, three-peat, 4-5, 6-10, 11-15, 15+ veteran) I had to check athlinks, but this will be #11 for me
What race are you training for? RnR DC
What motivated you to sign up for your first half? I wanted to stay in shape after running my first marathon. also, it was right by my house. What motivated you to sign up for your next one, if this is not your first? I wanted to run faster.
How's training going this week? Challenges? Victories? Random thoughts? so far so good! 30 minutes of easy pain free running yesterday. my knee gave me a scare on sunday with some straight up pain, but it seems like it was an isolated incident.

What number half are you training for? (Poll for mobile users - First timer, half-peater, three-peat, 4-5, 6-10, 11-15, 15+ veteran) I did 7 halves last year and one metric marathon (16.3mi)
What race are you training for? Shamrock in VA Beach
What motivated you to sign up for your first half? I had a friend who transformed her life and became a half fanatic - ran 52 halves in a year. She highly recommended the Shamrock half...I had my sights set on that half from the time I ran my first 5K! What motivated you to sign up for your next one, if this is not your first? Insanity. I (painfully) crossed the finish line at Shamrock last year...recovered in the beer tent a bit, waddled back to my hotel room and promptly signed up for 5 more races...I'm a little nuts!
How's training going this week? Challenges? Victories? Random thoughts? Training is finally starting to go well! I have been slacking a bit this cycle...just couldn't get motivated, but I have a renewed motivation this week. I just started New Rules of Lifting for Women this week and also bought Run Less, Run Faster - I'm combining these two programs and I'm excited about training again. Had a good long run Sunday and a good Tempo yesterday
What number half are you training for? (Poll for mobile users - First timer, half-peater, three-peat, 4-5, 6-10, 11-15, 15+ veteran) This will be #12!!
What race are you training for? Charity Chase Half
What motivated you to sign up for your first half? After running for four years with no distance races further than a 10k, I signed up for one and was hooked.
What motivated you to sign up for your next one, if this is not your first? Well, i was signed up for my first (early december that year) and my SIL told me the week of Thanksgiving that she signed us both up for a turkey trot half - it was about 2-3 weeks before my original first half
How's training going this week? Challenges? Victories? Random thoughts? just maintenance miles right now. Need to get my rear in gear though.
Good morning half trainees!! Let's kick it off with a poll!
What number half are you training for? (Poll for mobile users - First timer, half-peater, three-peat, 4-5, 6-10, 11-15, 15+ veteran) This will be #15
What race are you training for? Myrtle Beach, 2/15
What motivated you to sign up for your first half? I was training for my first marathon. Yep, I did it backwards. What motivated you to sign up for your next one, if this is not your first? They are fun, and I love to race.
How's training going this week? Challenges? Victories? Random thoughts? It's an icy mess out there right now! My biggest challenge for the half is getting in my pace runs. I am stuck on the treadmill most of the time, and I can't hit HM pace on the 'mill.

What number half are you training for? First half!
What race are you training for? Pittsburgh half, 05/04 (I'm noticing a trend that I'm similar to @sessalee!
What motivated you to sign up for your first half? I don't know, exactly. I was just running to run, and then I was like, "DH, I can do a half. You can do a half. We're signing up for Pittsburgh." And it was done.
How's training going this week? Challenges? Victories? Random thoughts? Well my kitties (who aren't little lions right now, but will be again soon!) kept me up all.night.long. running around, which means I was too exhausted to run this morning. (Four hours of sleep =/= running in the morning.) We just moved, so I'm getting acquainted to our new area. I did learn that we're close to a big park in the area, so there's lots of potential for awesome long runs. <) It's still early in training (and not true training yet), but I'm really excited about it!

My cats kept me up late too. We live parallel lives, apparently!
What number half are you training for? Number 5, with number 6 being about 2 months later
What race are you training for? RnR Nashville
What motivated you to sign up for your first half? I just wanted to see if I could do it.
What motivated you to sign up for your next one, if this is not your first? The half is my favorite distance so far, and I'm chasing the elusive sub 2:00
How's training going this week? Challenges? Victories? Random thoughts?
Training is going great! I was able to do a solid interval run yesterday despite my body still being sore from my last race.
What motivated you to sign up for your first half? I just wanted to be able to say that I did it.
What motivated you to sign up for your next one, if this is not your first? It's the NYC half. I'm a NY native. Just feels like a rite of passage.
How's training going this week? Challenges? Victories? Random thoughts?: UGH! NOT GOOD! My foot hurts something fierce. I'm going to go to urgent care today to see if I can get an x-ray because even with RICE, foam rolling, stretches, massages, KT tape, Aleve, etc., the pain is still there.
What number half are you training for? (Poll for mobile users - First timer, half-peater, three-peat, 4-5, 6-10, 11-15, 15+ veteran) This is number 7 for me.
What race are you training for? The Rhythm and Blues half in Houston this weekend
What motivated you to sign up for your first half? One of my friends had run one recently. I'd been running for a long time, was consistently doing 3 miles several times a week, and figured I could do that too.
What motivated you to sign up for your next one, if this is not your first? I signed up for my second one before I had even run my first, and it was three weeks later. I was enjoyed my training so I figured why the hell not. This one I signed up for with a friend and it was supposed to be her first half, but her knees and IT band are not cooperating so I'll be going for another PR instead.
How's training going this week? Challenges? Victories? Random thoughts? I've been in kind of a post-marathon slump (see the Training Tuesday thread) but I'm trying to get past it. My legs are more tired than I thought they'd be from running almost 10 last night, which is kind of unfortunate, but I think I'll be ready to go on Sunday. The weather looks perfect and the course is actually part of the course from the Houston marathon, so I think it's going to feel awesome to run it again knowing what I did last time!
What race are you training for? I'm training for RnR DC Half. This is my 2nd.
What motivated you to sign up for your first half? My first was in November. I did the Cherry Blossom 10 Miler last Spring and LOVED it. So I figured a half was the next step.
What motivated you to sign up for your next one, if this is not your first? I like having something to train for in the winter to keep me off the coach! I'd like to start focusing on Tris in the summer, but having something to train for is great for not only my physical health, but my mental health. I enjoy having something to look forward to in the winter.
How's training going this week? Challenges? Victories? Random thoughts? Great! I've realized running 4x/week is a bit much for me, so I'm doing 3 days/week and 4th day on the elliptical (along with strength training 2-3 times/week). I am a bit bummed I haven't run with my running group in several weeks because of some scheduling issues. But I'm getting the workouts in, so I guess that's all that matters!
What motivated you to sign up for your first half?
Running a half was something that I said would never, ever be on my bucket list. I always tried to be a runner but hated it. A year ago I completed C25K and once you ladies told me to slow down, I learned to trust the training. I realized that I can train for anything and I put it on the calendar. Never say never!
How's training going this week? Challenges? Victories? Random thoughts? I've been running 3 days a week through the winter so far (MWSat) and will try adding another day (Th) to up to 4 days. I've been upping my Saturday mileage and have been feeling good!
What number half are you training for? (Poll for mobile users - First timer, half-peater, three-peat, 4-5, 6-10, 11-15, 15+ veteran) I also voted in the poll, but this is #2.
What race are you training for? Shamrock half! (A local one for me)
What motivated you to sign up for your first half? I used running as a way to get in shape after having my first kiddo, and it seemed like a good goal. My first half was also just after I turned 35, which seemed like a fun milestone. I'm in better shape now than I've ever been.
What motivated you to sign up for your next one, if this is not your first? We're hoping to have kid #2 this year, and will start trying after a late-March vacation. A St. Patty's day-themed race seemed like a great time to focus for an A race.
How's training going this week? Challenges? Victories? Random thoughts? Pretty good! I had 7 on tap last weekend, and instead ran a 10k on Sunday, and set a new PR at 54:04. I was stoked, especially because it felt good, and not like a stretch. I'm really hoping that I can squeak in under 2 hours, but it'd be a big improvement over my first half, which was 2:08.
I signed up for a local running group on Meetup, and RSVP'd to attend my first group run on Sunday. I would love to have people to run with locally, so I hope it works out.
Love of my life baby boy born 11/11. One and done not by choice; 3 years of TTC yielded 4 MMC and 2 CPs, through 4 IUIs and 2 IVFs. Focusing on making the world a better place instead...and running.
Good morning half trainees!! Let's kick it off with a poll!
What number half are you training for? (Poll for mobile users - First timer, half-peater, three-peat, 4-5, 6-10, 11-15, 15+ veteran) this is my first one.
What race are you training for? Disney Princess
What motivated you to sign up for your first half? My friend asked me, but she has barely trained at all. What motivated you to sign up for your next one, if this is not your first?
How's training going this week? Challenges? Victories? Random thoughts? It's OK. I haven't gotten over 7 miles due to constant feet burning but I am proud I have done that many miles. I need to get to the running store this week to talk about my shoes and what I need to do to stop my feet from feeling like they are walking on fire after 2 miles.
It's not my first. I signed up to motivate myself to get my mileage up post baby.
The toughest obstacle so far is weather, and well getting my schedule together with being back to work and daycare. I know this won't be a PR race by any means.
How's training going this week? Challenges? Victories? Random thoughts? You poor, poor thing. I wouldn't wish those sleepless nights on anyone. Last night was super fun because we're still in boxes. I see them and I'm all, "OMG. We're NEVER going to get unpacked." And the cats are like, "Wheeeeeee! Obstacle course at 3 a.m.!!!" Sigh.

What number half are you training for? (Poll for mobile users - First timer, half-peater, three-peat, 4-5, 6-10, 11-15, 15+ veteran) #2
What race are you training for? Run the Bluegrass in Lexington, KY 3/29
What motivated you to sign up for your first half? I guess I wanted to see what I was capable of doing, and I'd heard a lot of great things about my first race. It was local (start line was about 5 min from my house), downhill/flat, and a great time of year, so I went for it.
What motivated you to sign up for your next one, if this is not your first? Not sure. I didn't finish my first so well, so I wanted to try again. It's where my brother lives, and I thought it would be fun to do it with my SIL. I honestly didn't think she'd say yes so quickly, but I'm very excited about it.
How's training going this week? Challenges? Victories? Random thoughts? This week has kind of sucked so far. I had my long run on Sunday, which left me kind of sore, then had swimming on Monday night. By last night, my hip really hurt, and I bailed on my scheduled run to rest it. Now we're getting snow dumped on us, so no running today (I really wish we had a treadmill at home, but DH says it's a no-go ).
Random thought - will I ever get to the point where I don't feel sore anytime I do runs of 8+ miles?
What motivated you to sign up for your first half?
I wanted to see if I could do it.
How's training going this week? Challenges? Victories? Random thoughts? It's going. My biggest challenge is getting my stuff on and running. My head keeps trying to tell me that I can't do it. The victory is every time I start to run.
What race are you training for? Snow Joke Half 2/22
What motivated you to sign up for your first half? I had just done a 10miler and survived and wanted to push myself farther. I'm a tad competitive, even with myself!
What motivated you to sign up for your next one, if this is not your first? My husband was running his first marathon and I chose to a (different) half the same day. It just sounded fun and I think I was pushed by his motivation to do a marathon. I did #2 just a month after #1 and was able to shave 8 minutes off my time and PR!
How's training going this week? Challenges? Victories? Random thoughts? It's a treadmill kind of week. Too cold temps to run outside. I'm proud that I did 6 miles on the TM yesterday, because its the most I've managed to crank out in one run on there. I really try to avoid the TM at all costs, but I hate indoor tracks even more so TM it is.
Good morning half trainees!! Let's kick it off with a poll!
What number half are you training for? Number 10! 11 is next month!!
What race are you training for? The Heavenly Half this Sunday
What motivated you to sign up for your first half? My cousin was running the Vegas marathon (pre r&r series), and his wife and I decided to tackle the half
]What motivated you to sign up for your next one, if this is not your first? It's an inaugural race, up in the mountains, fairly local and all downhill!!!
How's training going this week? Challenges? Victories? Random thoughts? I had a fabulous last big run last Sunday, so this week is all about easy runs, killing it at spin, and yoga
What number half are you training for? This summer I am planning for half #4 and possibly #5.
What race are you training for? I signed up to do the 13.1 ZB memorial virtual. I am also thinking of doing the Estes Park half in Sept.
What motivated you to sign up for your first half? I had done about a million 5ks and a few 10ks. I wanted to try the next level.
What motivated you to sign up for your next one, if this is not your first? I truly think the half marathon is the most addicting distance. I loved it and wanted to try it again.
How's training going this week? Challenges? Victories? Random thoughts? It is freaking cold and I hate the treadmill. My workout buddy got injured. Motivation has been the hardest for me.
What motivated you to sign up for your next one, if this is not your first? The half is my favorite distance so far, and I'm chasing the elusive sub 2:00
So am I! Last one I had it down to 2:06 and that was almost a year ago. I really am hoping to break 2 this year!

My PR is 2:16, but the Smartcoach app has me training for a 2:06 half in April, hopefully I can get there this year. If not, I'll have fun trying.

YOu must try Mr. Fish in Myrtle for dinner one night. Best fish tacos & fried green tomatoes!

You can totally do it! There will always be an "elusive" number to push yourself towards, it just changes over time as you improve. That's part of what hooks people to running I think.
