I'm not rude if I'm at someone's house and can almost always find something to eat at restaurants. Still, there are a lot of things I don't like: Eggs Mayo-based "salads" or dips Many vegetables - artichokes, asparagus, bell pepper, onions, cauliflower, olives Fish and seafood, except shrimp Spicy foods
I feel really sad reading these lists. Really sad.
Don't be... more for you
I eat shrimp now, but as a kid I didn't. We'd have it for special occasions, and my sister and everyone else loved it, while I was meh. I figured my pickiness made everyone else happy because they could have my share.
I don't care for most dairy--I do like plain milk and sweetened yogurt and ice cream. No savory dairy and ranch dressing is so vile I prefer other people don't eat it near me.
There are other foods I don't really like but are super easy to work around--fresh tomatoes, olives, mushrooms. But sometimes those don't even bother me when they are in things.
Plain chocolate bars and grapefruit juice give me wicked heartburn so I avoid those too. But obviously not an issue when eating with others.
I am pretty easy to please as long as there's no cheese:)
There are foods I don't like, but I don't think I overly picky, and there are no whole categories of food that I won't touch.
I am not a big fan of ground beef (texture thing). I don't like mayo or mustard on sandwiches, but I can deal with them cooked into recipes. I can't stand tuna. Head cheese, organ meats, and related things don't sit well with me. As a general rule, I am pickier about meats than meatless dishes. I can't think of any veggies or fruits that I won't eat.

I hate onions unless pulverized to mush and cooked into something. I don't eat mushrooms, cauliflower, mayonnaise, peas, cooked spinach (love it raw), plain black beans (mixed with something is ok), or celery.
I generally eat low fat/whole grain. It's what I cook at home.
But, if I'm a guest, I have what is on the offer, and don't ask for any special foods. A friend of mine loves to cook, and tends to cook higher fat things. So, I try to eat a moderate portion - enough to enjoy the meal, but not so much that the fat will make me sick.
If it's a potluck, I bring along a dish that I know will work for me.
If we go out to eat, there are very few places that don't have _something_ that will work for me. Really, the only places that are difficult are the specialty burger type places (in and out, mighty fine burgers, five guys, etc).
(when I was a kid I used to get severe stomach cramps after high fat meals... the desire to avoid that has stuck with me, although the effects are less extreme, particularly since having my gall bladder removed)
I feel really sad reading these lists. Really sad.
Me too.
I used to be a super picky eater...the kind where the list of what I would eat was shorter than what I wouldn't. Most vegetables would make me gag. It took years of practice and mental pep talks, and I think that right now there's only one thing that actually triggers my gag reflex, and that is a mushroom that has not been thoroughly cooked through. Raw mushrooms and those weird pickled or marinated mushrooms will make me vomit.
Balut and a few other weird foods that you see on those shows probably would too, but that's it.
There's a few other things that I deeply dislike - licorice and anise flavored things, raw onions, artichokes that are not buried deep in an oozy gooey dip or made into Cynar, celery, cardoons, and green peppers, but they wouldn't make me want to puke if I ate a bite of them in a soup or something.
I'm also not wild about duck and organ meat, but generally I'll try a bite of my husband's dish because I'm curious. I recently sampled a tripe dish that was amazing, so perhaps I could be converted.
Supposed to be gluten-free...recently diagnosed with "early onset celiac."
I'm failing miserably at times!
What is early onset? I have never heard of such a thing..either you have it (celiac) and should be GF or you don't have it.
Me: Gluten Free due to celiac. I also try to limit my sugar and hardly ever have processed foods. I also try to limit my dairy. I should go and get tested for allergies but just haven't followed up with my doctor.
I have a strong preference to eat organic/grass fed/free range, but I would never turn down food at someone's home or not go to a restaurant if others wanted to.
I love almost all fruits, veggies, and nuts. Most of my meals are mostly plant based, but it is not for health and more because I find them really yummy.
I do love stinky cheeses, foie gras, liver, all seafood, and a lot of other things people mentioned not liking. The only flavor I can't stand is clove.
Vegetarian, but I honestly don't see myself as picky. I go with the flow and whatever food is there that doesn't have meat or that I can easily take meat out of, I eat.
And I always tell people I'm a vegetarian simply because I just don't like meat. I'm not opposed to it in anyway and my food is okay if it touches meat.
Milk upsets my stomach so I just avoid dairy-heavy products if I'm out somewhere. Some milk-based things bother me, and others don't.
I don't like soda or junk food.
But, I eat what is put in front of me. I never make special requests or complain. Anyone who is close to me knows I don't eat meat and it is never an issue.
I keep trying mushrooms and gag every time, unless they're diced finely and over cooked. Same goes for most egg products (I can do scrambled with lots of meat, cheese, an bread).
I'm not big on raw cucumbers, tomatoes, or broccoli, but I'll eat them when served them.
I've recently developed a textural issue with shrimp. Thanks pregnancy!
I have texture (and some taste) issues (like squash, oatmeal, cheesecake, sweet potatoes, zucchini) and a valid allergy to bananas (the smell alone, never mind the flavor/texture, makes me vomit). I don't like the taste of coffee (either the drink or anything coffee-flavored, although I do like the smell of a Starbucks in the morning--I know, super weird).
I dislike most cheeses (I'm a mozz, ched, parm, jack, prov kind of girl--and that's about it for cheese).
I don't like cooked (or even warm) lettuce or cabbage. There was napa cabbage in this noodle dish I ordered the other day and I spent an inordinate amount of time picking it out). GROSS. I also prefer most of my vegetables raw (w/ the exception of steamed broc, green beans, asparagus, peas). I super dislike carmelized (sp?) onions.
So yeah, I'd say I'm pretty picky. It's unfortunate.
I grew up in a house of really picky eaters, so I wasn't exposed to a lot of different foods. I am still fairly picky, although my family considers me adventurous.
My biggest problem is that if I try something and really don't like it, I can't force myself to eat anymore of it. My stomach revolts and I get super nauseous. If I try to force it I get sick. It can be tricky in social situations.
Heck yes I'm a picky eater. I don't eat/like a lot of things. But I haven't come across a restaurant I couldn't find something to eat at.
My list of things off the top of my head: most leafy greens cooked or warm lettuce raw onions raw tomatoes steak seafood chocolate with peanut butter ripe bananas banana flavored things ham mushrooms asparagus artichoke brie cucumbers
I don't eat mushrooms, raw tomatos or onions, anything fake banana or cherry flavored, ribs, bananas unless they're cut up (a texture thing), kiwi, mangos, blueberries, honeydew, mayonaise, ham (or anything else pork besides bacon). The only actual food allergy I have is something that's an ingredient in some kinds of chocolate ice cream.
