Your mistake was eating pizza in Wells, not necessarily pizza in Maine.
And grilled pizza is an amazing invention that you can all thank Rhode Island for inventing. We actually have decent pizza in this town.
And New Haven (CT) pizza is the best pizza in this country. So really New England is not a pizza desert. But our bagels do suck and I can't get a proper hoagie anywhere.

I love dough, so NY style isn't my fave. Out here in CO, we've got beau jo's, which has a wonderfully thick crust that you can pour honey all over once you've eaten the pie part. *drools*
