We did Ferber at 5 months. I read the book and it helped a lot. It worked after 3 nights.
For night-weaning and naps we had to do straight CIO (check-ins made DD irate), but not until much later around 9-10 months. We probably could have done it sooner for both but chickened out.

I did Weissbluth extinction method with DS. It was painful but fast. Of course it's hard to listen to your baby cry, but everyone is so much happier and healthier when they get a good night's sleep. It was helpful for me to remind myself that there are many instances in parenting when your kid asks you to do something for them but you refuse because they need to learn to do it themselves; letting DS realize that he could put himself back to sleep is just one of those times.
