I want something small/fast/fun. My short list currently includes: Subaru BRZ Fiat 500 Abarth Mazda Miata Honda S2000 Mazda speed 3 Subaru Impreza STI
The BRZ and the fiat are my first choices but they're also the most expensive. They both have 4 seats or you can fold the back seats down for more cargo room. Boyfriend has a miata already and I love it but having two seems a little impractical especially if we want don't want to need to drive two cars to the grocery store. The S2000 is amazing but might be a little harsh for an everyday driving car.
I'm a car nut. I like your choices. I've test driven the BRZ for fun. It has a back seat... but not much of one. It's more of a put your purse back there or small children don't have legs. It was so much fun to drive.
I think out of your list If you need something that is fun to drive and has space to haul things the Impreza, Fiat and Speed 3 would be great choices.
Have you thought of a Mini Cooper? I drive a 06, stick. It's light fun and handles well. (I find after 07 they get a fat Elvisy, big and not as quick in the turns.)

pinkplasticdoll, I'd like to keep it around 20k which rules out a new Subaru but there are a ton of certified used options that I would happily buy. It also sort of rules out a new BRZ but it is so pretty/good. An impreza would be great in the snow here.
neonpink, I haven't driven the BRZ yet but I played with it a bunch at a car show and the back seats are tiny but I am pretty sure they'd be folded down most of the time for extra trunk room.
I just found a certified used fiat with 25k miles (in white!) in my budget! I can't go drive it today but I'll try and go tomorrow. I also feel like the fiat would do a little better in our snow. We do have a land cruiser for really snowy days bit we don't drive it too much because it is such a gas guzzler.
I also haven't looked too much into Mini choices but I wouldn't mind test driving a few.

captainmel Our subbie is a certified pre-owned car and I love her so much, she is so much fun to drive in the snow and ice. The H has wanted to test drive a BRZ but they never have them in stock at our dealer, it is insane!

Do you have a scion dealership nearby? Can you find an FRS? They're identical cars.

yes we do but he wants to test drive the BRZ. I just pat him on the head when he says that and say ok dear.
ETA: he is kind of a pain in the ass about cars and he is lucky I didnt murder him the last time we were car shopping.

Do the BRZ!!!! Toyota totally messed up when they made it a Scion. They should have kept it badged as the GT86 like the rest of the world. That's why I couldn't do the FRS. I also feel that the BRZ would keep its value better than the Scion.
That Fiat sounds pretty cool I would totally go drive it.
I love my Mini, A John Cooper Works one might be something you would be interested in.
