Baby stretch still has his cold he started last week. He's got a super nasty sounding cough, runny nose, isn't eating or sleeping all that well. What do you guys do to keep your babies comfortable?
We are using the nose frida, I'm letting him nurse all the time (overnight he was on every hour or two) and sitting in an incredibly steamy bathroom for several minutes. Anything else I can do? I feel so helpless!
If it's not getting better after a week and/or he has a persistent fever and/or he is not eating and/or you are concerned that he is having difficulty breathing, take him to the Dr. E had bronchiolits when he had a really bad cold like you describe. They couldn't really do anything for him, but said it is the #1 reason babies end up in the hospital and I should come back if he was not eating/drinking or having labored breathing. If his breathing was very labored or he turned blue, go to the hospital. I think the risk of that is higher w/ premies.
ETA: That really nasty cold/bronciolitis lasted like 3+ weeks, although it did get worse the first week, peaked, and then slowly got better. Hugs!
Yeah DH took him in to the doc yesterday since he's been sick for a week plus a day or so. They did an RSV test and it was negative, so that's good, but we're to keep an eye on his breathing. I was concerned because of the preemie thing too, being more susceptible to breathing issues from a cold. Hopefully he starts getting a little better.

Humidifier running constantly, putting him upright as possible to sleep so he doesn't get overly stuffed up. Hyland's makes awesome baby cold tablets that should be safe for his age, and they worked wonders for M with runny nose/stuffiness. If he's over 6 months, Hyland's also makes a baby cough syrup that worked well for her, too. I highly recommend both if you're willing to give them a try.
Keep up the good work, mama. Hopefully the little guy feels better soon!
When they are little usually lots of snuggles during the day and any sucking of the nose I can get if they are runny. And at night full blast humidifier to make sleeping easier for them possibly Vicks on the feet with socks
We bought a Vicks nightlight and it actually works really well! We bought it at Fred Meyer. Baby Vicks on the feet at night helps too. Hope the little guy feels better soon!
Our pedi said it was fine to let him sleep in the Rock n Play, Snugabunny, etc. for a few days to keep him elevated. If you don't have one, you can put towels/blankets under the crib mattress to give him a bit of incline.
Thanks for all the tips. We had him start out the night last night in the RNP, and that seemed to help a bit. But after he had his first wakeup he was pretty clingy and so he slept in bed with us.
I got vicks today and the bubble bath that karebear219 recommended and it does seem to be helping him cough a little less frequently. He was smiling an awful lot today which is good! Hopefully we're on the upswing.
