Look, we asked for an apology, they gave it to us. We can't be all "your apology wasn't good enough." I think the reality is that we've found a superior forum and the apology makes it less likely we're going to spend a lot of time "updating" the wiki knot page, or twitter shit about the nest, but I can't imagine going back. I can swear here, and I can talk about Dick Cheney and Don Drapers former identity without resorting to exclamation points. So I think the appropriate response is, thank you for the apology. Yes, we can still be friends, but I still think we should see other people.
My issue is that this isn't really an apology. It's an "I'm sorry you're upset, but it's not our fault."

i didn't ask for an apology (and i certainly didn't ask for this shitty apology). i wanted an explanation, which this is not. this is passing the buck. so IMO, the appropriate response is, "so?"
I, for one, don't give a rat's ass about an apology. This is not the first message board I've broken up with. There's just no reason to go back, unless you're completely taken with the idea of identifying yourself as a 'Nestie'.
This is preemptive PR damage control. Did you see that they somehow got a Twitter account suspended of someone who tweeted this mess to several news outlets? Between that, and the locking of the Wikipedia page, I think they are more scared at the potential PR damage that can be done than they are about placating the users they have upset with the format fuck up.

Ha, I was thinking this, but I know we balk at people in politics that give half-assed apologies, vis-a-vis "I'm sorry if people were offended" so I get why people are annoyed. But, they made a dumb move. It's the 21st century...message boards are 20th century. This is not a hard area to venture into with ease.
I do feel bad for her (but I am a sucker). It sounds like The Knot is a really poorly run company, and I'm sure that even if she does have any sense in her head, she probably can't do much about clueless execs who only listen when shit hits the fan.
Either way, KA's analogy describes it perfectly. We can swear, the majority of the members have moved over, it's not a nightmare from a usability standpoint and MOBILE APP! The decision about where to post seems simple.
I'm kinda LMAO at the idea that four 9s is grounds for contract termination.
All depends on what you are running--we've got lots of contracts with that clause. But I wasn't trying to indicate that a free message boards should be at that level, I was just commenting on the 5 days being "immediately" in the IT world. 5 days a long, long time in the IT world.

Seriously. It's an eternity. Can you imagine if Amazon were shut down for 5 days? How about just your office? You've lost an entire week in a world unforgiving of technological glitches.
I hold no ill will toward the nest, nor do I have any loyalty. This board works, and that's all I care about. Plus, I freaking love keyboard shortcuts.

Oh, absolutely. And I can think of companies that require it (financial institutions, for example). But that's hella expensive to maintain and your average company doesn't have the funds to do it.
Plus Five 9s is, like, 6 seconds of downtime a week. That wouldn't even cover reboots for security patches (I know, I know, most companies will say "We give you Five Nines of up time! Excluding planned outages.").
Most hosting companies I've talked to use Four 9s. I know Rackspace says 100% up time (excluding planned outages) but their own website sits at about Four 9s. Which is still excellent. But, you know, if their own website has downtime, yours will too.
But, yeah. Five DAYS? Hell to the no. I'd be at the data center screaming at someone after an hour. And that was true even way back in 2001 and my earlier days in IT.
