I did haven't any adverse reactions to getting off of BCP, and I had been on them for 10 yrs. I felt better getting of of them, and my cycle was normal almost immediately. If you're not opposed to other types of BC, I might get off a month or two before hand. If not, I'd just wait until after the race.
Same here, on them for 10 years, now off them for 2+ years. I chart to avoid, so we've had no surprises so far in the two years. We have the TTC and race talk all of the time!
LOL. I take it back. Perhaps I DID have adverse reactions. I did haven't any?? ^o)
I wasn't a runner when I started TTC. By the time I got into running, I was into fertility treatments. I still plan my treatments around some runs. Anything up to a half, I balance both equally as best I can. When I do my marathons, I absolutely plan around it and take a cycle off for the race.
Absolutely nothing wrong with planning one around the other in my book

If you want to show your husband you're committed to the idea and not just pushing it off (and assuming you are and not pushing it off indefinitely you could come up with a time line. Like six months before Boston, go off BC. Next annual check up, talk to the doctor about TTC. Start charting, things like that. That might help him feel like you guys are on the same page about it.

This is a really good idea. I'll probably put off going off BCP until right after the race, but get the checkup/etc a few months before. I know lots of people chart while TTA, but I don't trust myself to not get knocked up if I'm not on some sort of BC. AHHH so much to think about!
This was exactly me in 2012 with regard to 2013 Boston. We ultimately decided not to delay TTC for a number of reasons, but mostly just that we'd delayed it many times over already and it just seemed like time to shit or get off the pot. Once we made the decision I switched from TRAINING for Boston to just...training for Boston, if that makes sense. Basically I knew I was just going to run for the fun/experience and not be gunning for a PR.
I first got KU in December 2012 and if I hadn't miscarried, I'd have been in my second trimester for the race. I would've walked it if I needed to! As it turned out, I finally got a viable pregnancy the cycle after Boston, so I guess it wouldn't have mattered anyway, but in any case it took us a while to get there so I'm glad we didn't wait.

Best of luck! We have been talking about TTC as well and now that I've started running I have started thinking of putting off for another year to maybe run a marathon. We also have some financial decisions to make and another year would put us in a better financial position as well. If I BQ'd I would definitely be waiting until after to TTC. Boston is huge and I would consider that pre-TTC bucket list material.
Yeah, barring any previous knowledge of having trouble, I would postpone for that in a heartbeat. Absolutely. The question for me would be why wouldn't I postpone? If none of those answers were permanent, done.
eta: I charted for over three years both to avoid and to conceive. Never had an accident, never even had a worry, while trying to avoid. It's pretty simple, actually.
if I had BQd then I would for sure be waiting. For sure! But as that is a laughable idea for me, no, I have not. We decided to TTC and we are doing it despite races I want to do, vacations we want to take, and sticky work schedules. My top secret idea (first time admitting it outloud!) is that if I do not get pregnant within a year I will take a break and train for a marathon instead.
I think it's definitely reasonable to wait until after Boston, but I can see how your H is antsy, it's a long time. I would just encourage him to find something to distract him for the next year.
Funnily enough training for a marathon was my distraction/hobby until we could TTC #2 for financial/moving reasons. I found out I was pregnant a few weeks after my first marathon.
