The beliefs aren't any weirder than any other religion. What's weird is that people in this day in age of verifiable truths and wide spread knowledge would go along with it. Same goes for Mormonism, IMO.
I still maintain that there is a stark difference between religions that force you to pay money before they tell you how to be "saved", that operate to separate you FROM you family, rather than bring you closer to them, and that require you to join (and usually pay money) before they'll tell you how their religion "works." You can say what you want about Catholicism and being a cannibal, but you can get any question you want answered without ever committing to becoming a Catholic and you can go to as many Masses as you want without ever "joining" the church or paying a cent.
Yup and this is exactly what my comment about Methodist was meant to infer.
I don't care about the whole pieces of Xenu spread through volcanic ash over the earth's surface. Big whoo. But neither Catholics nor Methodists nor super scary muslins in fake Jew turbans ascribe to the notion of suppressive persons who need to be cut out of your life wholesale.

Of course you can. Now. What about a few hundred years ago? And I am not talking specific ways of controlling people, so yeah, maybe no one ever had to "pay" to go to mass. But they sure paid if they were a protestant, eh? lol.
Its only a matter of time. Younger / smaller religions are always more extreme. When they get old and mainstream, they don't have to be like that, so they are not.
But honestly for me it's just another religion which is inherently strange. It's not meant to be an insult, it just is what it is.
Sort of how I feel like having outside help come in when your baby is 8 weeks?
It's not meant to be an insult, it just is what it is.
Um, no. That was just you being a bitch to 99% of moms out there.
The irony is that I myself havent really needed help because ds s easy. I worked a few days after he was born. But raising a kd can take a village and no one should ever feel shame or worthless because other moms tell them it's 'weird' to need help. Mommy wars exist precisely because of people like you and the attitudes you have. And I will be damned if I'm going to let you make people feel inferior or less of a parent because they aren't a superhero like you.
Tbf, there are sects of "Christianity" that are cults. They're just not mainstream.
Yes, there are and I have no qualms with calling them cults either. They also engage in the whole cut off your family and never have any contact with them, we're all the family you need shenanigans.
At minimum, I'd be wary of drinking any koolaid at the scientology center.

I don't think anyone here who is a person of faith disputes that. Branch Davidians, Jim Jones, there are crazies everywhere. But the things you guys have outlined as well as wondering what the COS is going to do to Katie Holmes is disconcerting.

I think you're right, and I'm hoping that leads to the demise of Scientology. I certainly wouldn't start going to a church that made me cut out my family and frends.

No but being a bitch to 99% of Christians is perfectly acceptable to you.
The irony of MY post is that I said I didn't understand it because I didn't have help. Not that I was a superhero, just that I didn't have experience with that situation do it was weird to me.
