I've only ever been to one baby shower and it was at a bar. Many people wore jeans. My contribution to this conversation may not be particularly helpful.
I have never, ever, never worn or seen anyone wear jeans to any type of shower. Around here they are dressier occasions, and I usually wear a dress or skirt, although nice pants are generally fine too.
snipsnsnails, apparently I missed that/those discussions because I am surprised by all the jeans wearers up in here.
I've never dressed up for a baby shower. I wear jeans just about everywhere. Hell, by the time I hit 71, I may just choose to wear my pajamas. Yoga pants at the least.
I've never been to a baby shower where jeans weren't appropriate. However, these have all been afternoon affairs hosted at somebody's house. If I were ever invited to one that was held someplace else like a fancy restaurant or country club I'd probably wear some kind of dress or skirt (with boots/tights in the winter, or a nicer sundress in the summer).
I tend to try and look nice, but i too wore jeans to my shower. I was VERY limited in options and I'm not going to buy a new outfit for a shower. Showers are also pretty much held at someone's home. Nothing too fancy.
I'd say being 71, she can wear what she wants and to just wear what is comfortable for her. Not that 71 is all that old but still, I'd want my mom to be comfortable. My grandparents are in their 80s, so I'd also never tell them "you can't wear _____"
I can't think that if I ever manage to get pregnant and have a baby shower, that I would give a hoot what the people who cared enough to be there wore.
