There was some talk on my BMB about hiring a photographer to document labor and delivery. I'm interested in this, but would need to sell it to my husband, because ... money.
Did any of you do this? If so, do you have photographers that you'd recommend? I'd like to start getting quotes to see if this will even be feasible for us.
I didn't. But, I don't really know how this would work logistically. Labor and delivery are unpredictable and I can't imagine a photographer would just be on call 24/7. Do you have a family member who could take photos?
I kind of want someone who's not family so that they can focus on the pictures. Any family member we bring in to the delivery room is just going to be fussing over the baby and me, which is not what I'm looking for.
But yeah, birth photography basically requires the photographer to be on call ... which is why it's much more expensive than most other photo sessions :\
someone please ETTM? I am curious. I mean I don't know that I would love someone being up in my business during something like that. And what do you do with the photos after?
If I could convince H I totally would too. I never thought I would be that person but seriously looking at birth photo's/videos makes me so weepy and happy. I blame it on hormones. I try not to be a sappy happy person on the regular. Harumph.
I have been looking at Keren Fenton for new born photos/birth. One of my best friends is a photographer and he generally sticks to weddings and engagements but he said he would do maternity for B and I but I won't ask him to do NB photos...He's not a baby kinda guy lol and I would *not* want him there for birth. Nope nope nuh uh.

Thanks for all the suggestions, everyone!
I emailed a few people who didn't have birth photography pricing listed on their websites. I'm worried Keren (and a few of the others) are out of our price range; her packages start at $1K, and I was hoping for something more around $500 or less.
Fotolosophy (which I found via the Birth Photography Contest site) has packages starting at $500, so that may be a good option for us.
kwpnjumper55 has done these, I'm pretty sure. She is a great photographer and is super reasonable.
Edit: Actually, maybe I was thinking of her for newborn photos, but she can come speak for herself.
I have not done birth photos but would be willing to do one for gas money for experience depending on due date timing (school).Births don't bother me, seeming as I want to be a labor nurse.

Some doulas do birth photography as part of their 'package'. Of course, it's something you want to ask about, but some do it. Also, maybe have your H look at the pictures others have posted so he gets an idea as to what is being photographed. Most won't be doing shots of your baby crowning at your hoo-hah unless you specifically ask. It's mostly artsy shots of you in labor and once baby is born.
I was considering having my BIL do this for us, but then J said that the rest of his family wouldn't think it was 'fair' that he got to be in there for the birth and they didn't (which is actually a really good point), so I think we may have to go with someone who does it professionally.

My due date is June 17th....and I would be willing to pay more than just gas money but I also have to convince h...

I would happily pay more than just gas money! You have to foot those barn bills somehow, right? We should chat. I'll PM you.
Do it! Our doula took pictures for us (part of her service, not just random snapshots) and in addition to loving that his birth and the time leading up to it were recorded on film, having them (and the video if his actual birth and his first cries) really helped me process my labor and birthing experience.
