starryfish, any advice on visiting Antarctica? Anything you wish you'd had along with you or didn't need? We're headed to Antarctica next year and I'd love any advice / thoughts you have. Note: I'm not running anywhere!
I posted about going on my trip before i left, and people asked me to post pics after I got back.
I flew to Buenos Aires, and we were there for 2.5 days. Then flew to Ushuaia, Argentina (southern most city in the entire world). We got on a boat (Russian research vessel that holds 120 passengers). We crossed the Drake passage (roughest seas in the world)-it was so rough you had to hold on with two hands to stand or walk. It took 1.5 days to get to the northern most part of Antarctica. We made numerous landings in antarctica, went kayaking, and I ran a half marathon there too! It was the toughest race I have ever done (took me 1 hour 20 mins longer than my normal time). We saw LOTS of penguins, whales, seals, ice, etc. It was a BEAUTIFUL trip and amazing!

we got lucky on the way there, only 24 hours of the worst drake passage, and then 12 hours of holding on with one hand, and then we got to Antarctica 12 hours early so we got to do an excursion early! On the way back we were even luckier and it wasnt too bad (only 1 hand and sometimes none). We had AMAZING weather to which i am very VERY greatful! The other boat that was with our trip left one day ahead of us and then had 48 hours of the TERRIBLE drake passage and really bad race weather
This is seriously awesome! Do you plan on running a race on each continent?
Maybe someday. That was only my 2nd continent. Its my Aunt's goal (who i went with) to run one on every continent. I am going to Africa with her in 2016.
I am actually going there in Jan with my parents & brother on a 19 day cruise (leaving out of Buenos Aires). Anything you highly recommend seeing while there? (besides Penguins of course)

Def do the kayaking option!
Also we found our boat was very warm inside, like too warm. I wished I had regular non warm clothes to hang out in
