Oh, the bad knees thing. That cracks me up. The people who tell me that are always non-runners, and almost always couch potatoes. Even my orthopedist was like, "Yeah, if you run marathons, you'll end up with some minor joint/tendon/muscle injuries. It just comes with the territory. No big deal."
My ortho said the same. Also, since my knees are crap whether I run or not, I was advised to stay active, treat them like a classic car, keep up the activity and keep them well oiled. Just be smart about it, they hurt, ease up a little and switch up the activities.

I can't get worked up over this article.
There have been plenty of studies over the years showing endurance sports and marathons cause imflammation, re-wiring of the heart, temporary cardiac damage, etc, etc. (I'm too lazy to look up citations). I don't find it hard to believe this propostion. Dont we normally espouse moderation in everything here?
That said, the risks are still minimal in the grand scheme, and are ones I'm willing to take.
everyone dies at some point. i might as well run and be happy while i'm alive.
A friend if mine sent me a link to this article (she runs, she didnt send it as a warning but to discusd) and i basically responded the same way as this.
