My family's moving to Seattle this fall and I'm trying to take advantage of some sales and stock up on winter gear for next year. Just curious how heavy of a coat your kids need. We come from the Midwest and are used to sub-zero temps. I understand I should find something waterproof, but not sure how heavy a coat they need. Thanks!
hi, welcome! my kids have no heavy coats..but we also don't spend much time outside when it's COLD...we don't get a lot of those cold-cold days here, so if we get them, we just avoid going outside. my kids have a few different sweatshirt or fleece zip hoodies and my toddler has a rain jacket with a fleece liner. i've never felt like i needed more than that. i also have the fuzzy bear jacket (with the ears on the hood) that carters makes for both my kids. with those, that's more than enough.
We got by this year with just a quilted jacket from Boden (similar to this) and a Columbia fleece jacket. If we were out and it was super cold, we just layered.
For older kids who are in school all day and have recess, I'd get a ski jacket but nothing fancy.
And WELCOME! Do you know where in Seattle you're going to be?

BKB has a fleece jacket and an insulated jacket (she's 2.5). I'd link the coat, but it's sold out now. In the dead of winter it rarely gets much colder than the 20's here. December/January temps are usually around freezing.
Like PP said layering is key. If it's really cold I'll just put a sweat shirt underneith. She also has a lighter rain jacket for spring/early fall.

I have no idea at the moment. DH is out there already and he's renting a room in Ballard. His company is in Bellevue, so he has a bit of a commute. We were initially thinking suburbs, but DH told me he prefers the city. He's scoped out neighborhoods and was focusing on the Green Lake area. I think Wallingford was one he really liked. I posted about moving on MM a couple of months ago and have to go back to that thread as there were a ton of helpful suggestions. We're on a tight budget and I don't know the area at all, so I'm a bit overwhelmed. Any tips would be appreciated!
We spend a lot of time outside in the winter and DD has a down Lands End jacket and an REI ski jacket. She also has a pair of ski bibs we got second hand -- it snows here once or twice most years and we had planned to go skiing until I got pregnant again. She also has several zip up hoodies.
I don't think M has had anything heavier than a fleece jacket. I always just layer depending on how cold it is and she has always seem to be Jaime and warm.
